Let me start by saying that this cruise was our 23rd. First and last with Holland America!
The embarkation was smooth and we had a corner room the size of a small hotel room. That's all the good review.
First the shower in our room was scalding hot! We couldn't adjust the temperature, so we informed our room steward. It took 5 or 6 days for them to send someone, and when they did, it was an electrician!!! Took another day for this to be fixed.
The buffet which we tried twice was a joke! All the trays on the steam table were empty. Before replacing them they scraped every tiny bit of food off the empty tray! When I asked when they would be getting fresh, the server behind the buffet, replied we need to use this until they are empty and turned away, we ended up getting room service for breakfast as it was fresh and tasted good.
The dining room service was just as bad. Servers looked lost and confused as if they had received no training at all. Out of 10 dinners, we only had a bar steward twice ask us, before dinner if we wanted a drink.
The rest of the time someone would ask halfway through dinner, or later! The food was acceptable in the dining room, but we heard many complaints.
The entertainment was adequate, but not good by any means. As for activities on the ship it was geared for old seniors!
There is absolute nothing for children, teens, young adults or middle aged people.
The only reason we went with this cruise line is because we wanted to go through the Panama Canal, but it definitely not worth the money.
Very seldom did a crew member say hello in the hall, including the officers!
Sorry Holland America! You need to get your crew trained, by Carnival, Royal Carribbean, or Norwegian whose crew and officers can't do enough to make your cruise enjoyable.
