Royal Princess Not So Royal

Sail Date: January 2014
Destination: Eastern Caribbean
Embarkation: Fort Lauderdale (Port Everglades)

We just returned from a 7 day very disappointing cruise on the Royal Princess. The issues we encountered are too numerous to write about. In essence, the Royal Princess is a beautiful ship, but they put a lot of glitter into it but not service. Be prepared to serve yourself at the International Cafe, not to mention cleaning off your table. Don't expect your thermostat in your cabin to operate properly or your safe. Watch out for the hand held shower head - it slips. The balcony cabins are tiny and the balcony - more of a "ledge." If you order room service, the table on your balcony allows one passenger to eat at a time - the table isn't big enough for two plates!

If you have a decent sense of smell - you are out of luck. Every deck had a bad odor. even our comforter smelled like sweaty feet. Aside from poor service (we are Elite), and the fact that I was embarrassed by a "Coffee Commando" when I presented my coffee card, purchased on a cruise 4 weeks prior, and she rfused to More give me a cup of brewed coffee, was only one "memorable" incident. Being Elite, we get free laundry and dry cleaning; free mini bar set up; a special lounge with lower priced alcoholic beverages, etc. etc. BUT we are not entitled to a cup of brewed coffee in the morning UNLESS we purchased the $33 coffee card on THAt cruise. Make sense? Didn't to us!

Horizon Court is confusing. Twists and turns. You're lucky if you can find your table! Elevators? Most of the time, be prepared to walk the stairs. Long waits, and always crowded. The whole ship has twists and turns and most of the time, be prepared to be lost! Want a lounge at the pool? Get up around 5AM and you may not have to walk three decks to find an available one.

One of the shows was excellent - the others mediocre. The theatre seats are narrower with no place to place your drink - no little drink table that comes with the other Princess ships, in the theatre. Outdoor movie screen mostly showed loud rock concerts. The pools are standing room only. The good part: In cabin movies on a wide screen, great dining room staff in Anytime Dining; great crew in the shops and Passenger Services. We did enjoy the Princess live theatre. Would we book the Royal again? NOT EVEN IF THEY GAVE IT TO US FOR NOTHING! Less
