We are both in our early 50's and this was our third caribbean cruise. We decided to try Celebrity after two cruises with Holland America. We got a great deal (January) and great airfare (from Canada), so the price was excellent. We are not big on adding extras, so we did not opt for a lot of excursions or specialty dining. That being said, my husband enjoyed his soda card, and we did opt for double reef snorkelling in Cozumel and Stingray swim in Cayman islands, both under $50 per person per excursion. We LOVED our excursions! We did try the Lawn Club Grill when we were offered a 20% discount on the first night. It was really nice -- although it was almost empty -- we enjoyed our meal there.
After all was said and done, we were underwhelmed by Celebrity and we were left with the definite feeling that we would return to Holland America the next time we cruise. The Silhouette is a beautiful ship and we loved many spaces that we explored. Loved the gym. Loved the entertainment. We were very open to trying different bars, lounges, library spaces, etc. All really nice. However, the feeling we were left with was that the staff were overworked and there were many times we felt we were "barked at" for simple questions. We are not high maintenance guests by any stretch, and we are very friendly to everyone, including staff. However there were too many occasions when we felt the staff were just not friendly at all, in fact, they were downright rude to us. Not something we EVER experienced on Holland America. I have to add that Holland America food overall is far superior... just saying.
It's difficult to give a perfect score to a cruise line that has a completely dysfunctional website for months (Fall, 2013). That was such a frustrating introduction to Celebrity. And icing on the cake -- when we returned home from our cruise, we had an envelope in our mailbox from Celebrity with our.... luggage tags!! Unbelievable. So overall, we enjoyed our cruise but we will return to Holland America next time.
