Fantastic for Children, Parents, and Grandparents

Sail Date: December 2013
Destination: Bahamas
Embarkation: New York (Manhattan)

We sailed last December, 2013 from NYC to Bahamas with our 2 grandchildren ages 9 and 13 and our daughter, age 40. My husband and I are in our early 60's. We had a fabulous time and could not take advantage of everything available on this ship. We were never bored.

Highlights:

Teen Program - Our granddaughter loved it and made many friends.

Salt Water Pools - deep and warm.

Water Park and Ropes Course- More fun than we thought it would be.

Atlantis Resort Waterpark.

Manatee Kayaking in Fla.

The Manhattan Room for dining.

2nd City, Burn the Floor and Jazz Club

This is a large ship and is beautiful. Sailing out of NYC is amazing at sunset past the Statue of Liberty and under the bridge. Aft is a huge party platform with jacuzzi's and big screen. Hard to find, but get there for the sail away party at 3.

Norwegian ships are very clean and beautifully maintained. We have sailed 10 times on 3 different More lines. Never gotten sick, but Norwegian has the most aggressive routine the first 3 days.

Our balcony mini-suite was really nice. It is a bit more spacious than a regular balcony room. Our daughter and her 2 children had a regular balcony and there was a noticeable difference in length and width, but not really that much for a couple to notice.

Our teenager and 9 year old were so very happy during the week. It was a wonderful vacation and very reasonable when you consider all the meals were covered. It is so fun to take a cruise with the grandkids and we recommend it. No soda cards are necessary. They can have juice or water, milk, etc. Don't get the card.

We went to Magic Kingdom 2 years ago on the GEM with the younger granddaughter alone, so this time we did the Manatee Kayaking tour. Was amazing. We did not see any manatees though. Kayaking around the coves and beaches was worth it.

Norwegian is fantastic at dinnertime. Make reservations, because those who don't may wait a while at the free restaurants. We never waited because we made a standing reservation at 6pm each night. Low stress dinners with music and lots of laughter. Everyone seemed to really enjoy themselves and there were so many staff in the Manhattan Room they were almost funny. We felt very welcomed and well cared for in the Manhattan Room. Ask for a room on the dance floor and try to get your kids to dance! It will be worth it. Was a highlight to see the youngest dance with her grandfather. It is not stuffy, but you do need to respect others by dressing up a bit. Not formal, just not jeans or shorts. it is fun. We are a very relaxed family, but we enjoyed dressing for dinner. The kids did too. But on Norwegian you can choose other free venues that will take you in any condition you choose. That is the great thing about that cruise line. It is our favorite out of the 3 we have used in the past. Less

Cabin review: Norwegian Breakaway 10099

Great. Modern. Large bathroom and large shower with 8 or more shower sprays. Mini suite. No tub. Large comfortable bed. Bigger than a queen. Beautiful views and great location on ship.

Port and Shore Excursions

Did not get to go this time, but I have been before on the GEM and it is great fun! It was too windy to tender to the beach, so we went to Nassau that night and after dinner got off the ship. It was very quiet at the port. Felt unsafe to walk around. Not used to tourists at night there.

I think Norwegian needs to get proper docking facilities at the Great Stirrup Cay for the Breakaway like Disney has. It seems others have also been disappointed on previous sailings because they did not stop there. Still, we had so much fun at the Atlantis water park and arrived earlier than anybody else.
