So Oceania's Marina is beautiful and the crew and staff are the best., but that doesn't make up for the negatives. They advertise free air fare. Which is a chartered flight out if LAX on Tahiti Air. This flight is miserable. The plane is old, and there is no room. The personal entertainment systems don't work and then you are stuck as,there is no place to change where they might be working. Do they every check these?
To get a little water on this flight it feels like you are a prisoners begging for a small cup of water.. Never again..
The Marina has customer service and you don't feel herded. We did buy the liquor package for the two of us for the ten days which was a $1200 extra as soon as we got aboard. People buying their drinks are always signing and getting a big bill apron check out. Many people complained that the drinks were watered down or they couldn't even fill your wine glass for the $10:50 they charged plus 18% service and gratuity charge that is added.
The restaurants are very impressive . But you need reservations and you have to do that BEFORE you go.. As soon as you book your trip you can go on their web site and book restaurants and excursions. Their web site is terrible to get on and by the time you do you can't get reservations. Apparently those that book the concierge suites have the ability to book more freely. While you hear these people telling you how they are going to Jaques Pepin for the second and third time you sit on a waiting list. Never did get to go to three of their signature restaurants...
Again the food and staff was great.
We Did sign up for the "unlimited excursions for another $1200. But by this time many of the excursions were full and others still had an up charge. These excursions were INSANE.. We were able to get on an excursion to a Pearl Farm. It was $80 each. So after a 20 minute bus ride we got a 20 minute presentation and then lead to their gift shop. Again INSANE.. What a waste..
I don't know if these is typical of Oceania's excursions or whether it was French Polynesian but you really felt you were being taken advantage of.
While we left a tip for the housekeeping who made us very comfortable, your credit card is charged $15 a day per person for tips that is supposed to go to the staff. Those we were charged another $300 for this. This is a forced gratuity... A nice touch....to stay away from.
During the trip they are constantly promoting the next cruise with free premiums. They old seemed to vanish when you asked for a written quote. Very misleading promotions.
Again we went as part of a alumni group, and While everyone was impressed with the boat and staff, not many of us would ever do it again...and we are smart people. You can fool us once but not again...
