Carnival Freedom Days-Jan 19,2014

Got emails about some wonderful prices on a 6 day cruise on Carnival. We had not sailed on Carnival for several years. Last cruise on Elation was not as good experience as we had expected. But the price of the Freedom cruise and a nice OBC were cause enough to plan a retirement cruise for my wife.

Stayed the night before at the Quality Inn cruiseport/airport south. They have a free shuttle from the airport and to the cruiseport. Plus you can arrange to have them pick you up at the port when you return for a $10.00 per person fee. Works very well.

Took the last shuttle from the hotel to the docks.Stepped off the shuttle and dropped bags. Walked into the building and were on the ship in maybe 20 minutes. Our room was all set for us. Next was the muster drill. Then sailaway.

We had been to all the ports before and wanted to revisit. Key West had changed a good deal since we had been there. As had the other ports. Had More good visits in each one of them. Met with CC roll call folks in Fish and Chips after Key West port day. The car museum on Grand Cayman was new to us. A super collection. Several of us from the CC roll call went to a great local restaurant named Scotchies in Jamaica.Wonderful food. And cheap!! Nothing like sharing a meal with new friends.

Meals on board were good if a little small. Lasagna was the only entree that was truly filling. Good thing I ordered soup or salad each night along with a choice from the "didja" section of the menu. Gator bites, sushi, escargot, frog legs and oysters Rockefeller were some of the things I picked. Had a super couple for table mates. They were from Atlanta. We all ate every night together.

We missed not having some kind of stage show each night. The two we had were fun entertainment. The rest of the time it seemed that trivia games were the filler.

Freedom is an oddly decorated ship. But as the days passed we got to appreciate the decor.

Our room was quite nice. Balcony was standard size. A couple of chairs and a table were a snug fit. Carnival`s policy of allowing smoking on balconies was a turn off. We had a cigar smoker next to us so some times weren`t too pleasing. But we still logged plenty of balcony time. The biggest treat was the shower. I actually fit in it. At 6`3" 250 that is saying something. And the curtain was long enough that it didn`t chase you around the shower. The bed was quite comfortable. Best we have had.

Six days passed very quickly. Soon we were back in port. Debarkation was a breeze. We had an early flight so we were in the second group off.

Sure glad we took this cruise. Wasn`t to sure to start. Changed my mind back to favoring Carnival. Will consider them again in the future. Even if my heart is with Princess. Less

Cabin review: Carnival Freedom Balcony Verandah 8335

Very nice room. Spacious with super comfy bed and a shower that was comfortable to use. Biggest downer was some of the worst TV programming of any ship we have cruised on.
