Ship Facts: Celebrity Summit Review (by Cruise Critic!) | Celebrity Summit Deck Plans
Amazing first cruise

We traveled with friends (five couples total). Two of the couples had been on previous cruises and we, along with two of the other couples had never been on a cruise before. We sailed January 25-February 1, 2014.

We boarded the ship with one of the other couples that stayed in the same hotel as us the night before in San Juan. It seemed pretty seamless. We were given a ship card that would allow us on and off the ship at the ports, let us into our rooms, and swiped if we were making purchases/getting drinks. What we did not know was that we could not get into our stateroom when we got on the ship until they made an announcement, or else we would have went straight to the Ocean View Cafe (buffet) instead of trying to go to unavailable rooms to drop off our backpacks (our suitcase was dropped off on our way in).

Ocean View Cafe

There was a lot of different food to choose from - anything to please just about anyone. Constantly fresh with people ready to server. Lot's of seating. Only complaint is that it is a really large oval so it is hard to see what there was - and no real way to tell if the end had food until you got there. The pork buns are fantastic.

We were on an inside cabin on the lowest level, with only one cabin that we shared a wall with. I am not the right person to comment on noise levels as I can sleep through most loud noises. It was great for the choppy nights because it was lower to the sea and in the middle. There was more than enough storage space for everything so we unpacked. There was a pretty painting and a nice vanity that I made use of. Our cabin was slightly smaller than our friends who had ocean views, but we were just spending our time in the cabin to sleep anyway so that was not a problem. The bathroom was more compact than we were used to but it was good enough and did the trick. The shower was actually quite sizable. Bed was not that comfortable (too firm for me, but just right for my fiance) - the bed was two mattresses that was put together so there was constantly a space down the middle of the bed. Our stateroom attendant was really great.

Cosmopolitan Restaurant

This was the main dining room. The food was absolutely amazing and the staff fantastic. The waiter, assistant waiter, sommelier, and bar waiter were so attentive and just wanted to please us.They made changes we asked for, joked with us, and made recommendations. If you like Indian food go on this ship as the head chef and sous chef are both Indian and know their stuff (I'm not a fan but one of our friends who came with us is Indian and loved it. The staff would let us have changes to different food items (ie. putting the cherry jubilee on top of the chocolate lava cake) and giving our entire table a dessert that was not available that night by letting us give 24 hours notice. The bar guy I felt sorry for. The issue for them is that a full bar is not available close by so when certain items were asked for that were not available in the dining room area, ours would go to grab those drinks from the other bars so he went above and beyond. Not to mention the fresh squeezed orange juice at dinner that wasn't available during that time of day.

I was, unfortunately, feeling nauseous the evening we went. However, the food was very good. The waiter we had was fabulous. Be aware that this restaurant is on deck 10 so if it is choppy you really feel it.

Martini Bar

Bar staff were amazing. One attempted to do shows (sometimes successfully, sometimes not) that was added entertainment. They made an absolutely delicious cherry lane martini that I fell in love with.

Cafe Bacio

Loved. This was probably my favourite place on the ship. The iced tea and iced hot chocolate (igloo sans coffee)were delicious. There are some large arm chairs next to these huge windows that were so nice to sit in while sipping a drink and watching the ocean quietly. Probably one of the very few spaces on the ship, other than the room, that allowed for you to have some private space and looking out unless you have a balcony. There was a very good acappella group, Four Sail, that would sing every so often.

The shows in the theater were okay. We did not go out much to the entertainment. However, the newlywed game was hilarious. I do not feel like it would be really fair to comment on this.

Overall very impressive. We are planning to do our next vacation on Celebrity, which is our honeymoon in Hawaii!
