Please let me start by saying that I have cruised before and have had a fantastic time. This time however, was not the case. I went on a cruise through Royal Caribbean, and was one of the people who caught the norovirus from the ship (feel free to look up the issue on CNN.com). Getting sick however was not my huge issue, my issue lies with how the company chose to treat those of us who caught the virus. Let me remind you that this virus ran rampant throughout the ship and without a doubt, came from the ship. Announcements were made that there was a highly contagious virus going around the ship and that if you started to see symptoms, to go to the medical faculty. When I started to feel ill, I went, as directed, to the medical facility. they confirmed norovirus. they then put me in isolation for 24 hours. I was not allowed out of my cabin. I was put on a strict diet, but they would not accommodate my food allergies with this diet and I was forced to eat nothing but bananas while in isolation. In addition, housekeeping stopped, I was not allowed plates, silverware, or drink vessels that were not disposable, I was not allowed to use a regular trash can, I had to use biohazard bags, and I was not allowed to report for customs. I was told that customs would come to my room. not only did they never come but no one ever contacted us to let us know that they were no longer coming. in addition I was told that my luggage was not allowed to be put with the regular baggage claim. I was not allowed to put my luggage outside of my door that someone would come to collect it for me between the hours of 11 p.m. And 11:30 p.m. again no one came and no one told us they were no longer coming. I had previously called to ask if we could just take her own luggage and they told us know that CDC had to come and get our luggage. on the morning of departure we were isolated all of the sick people to one specific room. we had to be escorted privately to customsAnd depart the ship separately from the rest of the guests. everything was very chaotic and no one seems to know what was going on. every person we asked a question too had a different answer. the cruise line promised us a credit for the amount of one day for one person, but again they did not comply with those terms. the credit would have been a joke I am NOT going on another cruise with them anyway. I have never been made to feel like lesser of a person. I missed half of my cruise and was treated like a leper. in addition to my family had to miss out on their vacation as well.
