it was as stated, our first cruise, new experiences. Everything ran smoothly..suitcases in cabin as we arrived. The closet smelled extremely musty, like mildew, so i placed the soap from the bathroom onto the drawers, seemed to do the trick.
Lido deck - plenty of food - we tried a little of almost everything. After day 5..we were wanting the plainest of food, and in tiny quantities..everything seemed laced with garlic. I like a little garlic..but not in every piece of food i take.
Empire dining, lovely atmosphere, yes, but the meals weren't that impressive. We were disappointed.
Some shows were fine, the band Music Manila who played in the Cool Room were superb.
Australia day was very good. Flags, Music..a piece of home.
The room service, the people who cleaned our room - Top Marks! They were good natured, always smiling.
The programs on the TV..abysmal.
Generally people on board were pleasant. We picked the school holiday time to travel, which was a mistake...over 50% of passengers were under the age of 18!
The Carnival Spirit is more geared towards families with young children, and the early 20's down.
Judging from what other experienced cruisers commented, they seem to think that other cruise liners like Princess, P&O or Caribbean are a cut above.
Shore excursion ..value for money? probably not as the more experienced had similar excursions, or better for much less when they booked as they arrived onshore.
We would like to experience another cruise one day, but not with Carnival Spirit.. - too many negatives.
Staff were excellent. Food mediocre. Entertainment - varied. In cabin service - excellent.
We are in our 50's so not old age pensioners- yet. I think another cruise liners may be geared towards our age group.
