Pleasantly Surprised

Sail Date: January 2014
Destination: Western Caribbean
Embarkation: Galveston

This is our quick getaway we always enjoy. This time DW and I went with a new couple to travel with and we all had a great time.

Arriving in Galveston early enough to have a quick snack and drink at the Spot down on seawall. Shrimp Kisses are the recommendation there.

Embarkation was almost to easy. I even forgot the credit card I registered on line with, but no issue and way we went.

We were on Triumph in May of 2012 and the upgrades are perfect. First all the new carpet. Makes the ship feel newer throughout. There are still areas that are showing their age, but overall a Great Ship.

Our cabin on deck 6 was clean and had plenty of storage. Our travel mates cabin did a have a couple of minor problems but they were quickly taken care of. Stewards were fast and friendly and everyone new your name.

The new addition in food venues were excellent. Guy’s burgers were the group’s favorite, I had breakfast burritos twice and they were More always good. We sampled quite a few drinks at the bars there and were very pleased with the service. Oakheart and Coke is the call here.

In Cozumel, we always rent a car and travel over to the other side of the island to Coconuts. If you have never done that, you owe it to yourselves at least once. Great scenery and great fun and be sure try the shrimp quesadillas. Absolutely the best.

Then back downtown to do shopping. The boys over to the Blue Agave to stock up on Tequila, the girls to go see George’s jewelry shop behind Fat Tuesday.

Getting back on board was easy enough even waiting to the very last minute to enjoy our stay. They had at least three gangways working and the lines went fairly fast. Sea day was filled with pool and casino activities. Again, main dining room staff met a special request each night and the entertainment in the MDR is always fun.

We did the comedy shows, those guys were very good, potty humor so beware. We didn’t partake in any other show, so no input there.

We did the self checkout and were off the ship, in the car and headed home by 9:15. Blazing fast. TABC did ask about tobacco and alcohol products, we declared our 4 litters, paid our Texas tax and were done.

Will we go again, most defiantly. Is she perfect, no, but the staff and the journey makes for an enjoyable long weekend. Less

Cabin review: Carnival Triumph Balcony Upper 6276

Plenty of storage. Good space, some slight noise below from EA Sports/Casino area when announcements are being made. Convenient access to elevators, casino, and up to get coffee in the morning.
