Our 5th Celebrity cruise in the past 3 years and a bit of a disappointment in overall service of past Celebrity cruises.
The ship is GRAND and the largest we have ever sailed upon, and being new and modern, the amenities were very nice and special.
But it is apparent where Celebrity has seemed to cut corners in order to cut costs to the detriment of passenger retention in my opinion. Gone are the smiles and eagerness of the crew to be helpful, they looked tired, bored, and the management appeared to have little concern of passenger satisfaction. It was like pulling teeth to get a good morning or hello from all but a few.
We treated DW parents to this cruise to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary and booked the same CS on the port side for them (1615). This trip was about their happiness first and foremost.
In our 20 years of cruising we have been fortunate enough to always have a butler who have all been very good at their jobs in return we have shown our appreciation for their good work...until this cruise. It was evident that our butler was not properly trained as well as DW parent's butler (their first) too. Both cabin stewards and their assistants were FANTASTIC in every regard.
We appreciated the captain's club hostess treating in-laws to dinner at the captain's table to mark their anniversary...we had requested and hoped this would occur and Rachel did not disappoint.
The food has decreased in quality in our opinion including the specialty restaurants.
We enjoyed the band "Vibes" and the DJ duo that took over when the band's sets ended. Really enjoy the martini bar set-up and the music, we spent time their each night...talking with new friends.
We rented an Alcove for the full week and are very happy with the set-up. It was a great place to meet/visit with family and friends and enjoying the lawn and ocean views (yes, you can see the ocean across the lawn between the alcoves while relaxing) is just what we were looking for especially not having to struggle for deck chairs from chair hogs which their are plenty. I was perplexed why there were not more pool butlers, DW and I left after a 30 minute wait for service and found our refreshments elsewhere.
It is still evident that the bar staff do not like the drink packages (we did not purchase a package for ourselves) as it cuts into their compensation, they do not hide this fact.
We only participated in one ship excursion (dolphin swim) and were pleased with this Celebrity excursion.
Most of all, we were disappointed with management and officer interaction (or lack thereof). Our one encounter with guest relations (to ask for some simple information, nothing else) was met with a scowl and uncaring attitude. We never received a final bill and I am hoping one will be emailed to me.
On our last night, everything closed early and we are not sure why as we were ready to party as hard as we did on our first night as were our group of friends. Celebrity missed out on revenue due to this decision, but they also short-changed us as we paid for 7 nights and only received 6.5 nights.
