This cruise was absolutely the best vacation I have ever been on. We flew to Miami the day before on Saturday and we stayed at the Miami Courtyard Marriott South Beach. That was really nice and we had a great time. On Sunday, our cruise departed from Miami. We took a cab that fit the 5 (a 16 year old, a 14 year old and 3 adults) of us (with our many bags!) and we were at the port in 10 minutes! The price was about $15. Along the way we saw our ship and many others in port. As soon as we got there we were so excited and ready for our much needed and long awaited vacation. We unloaded our luggage from the van and as we began to place our luggage on the cart we heard a Norwegian employee yelling- "I will do it! You are on vacation now!!" Norwegian has the most perfect service and the kindest people in the word working for them.
As soon as we got on we went right to our staterooms. We had 2 rooms-- A balcony cabin, and an inside cabin, directly across from each other on deck 9 (midship/aft). The inside room was the biggest inside room we had ever seen. It had a king sized bed and a full sized couch. There was a huge closet with all drawers and shelves around it. Then next to the couch, there we 2 floor to ceiling closets, one was a wardrobe type with hanging space on top, a shelf on top of that and then four drawers below that. The closet across from that was the same size but had about 15 shelves in it. There was so much space!! The bathroom was really nice with a large shower with lavender scent soap that smelled so good. The water-pressure was so good that it felt like a massage. The balcony room was a great size also with plenty of closet space and a beautiful balcony. The balcony had a glass door instead of the sliding door which most ships have. We really liked it though because there was a latch on the wall of the balcony that the door hooked on to so you can sleep with the door open and feel the ocean breeze and the sounds of the sea. The balcony also had bars instead of the tinted glass which we really liked because the tinted glass usually gets foggy really fast and then you cant see the view when you are sitting down.
After we dropped our carry on bags in the room and put our bathing suits on, we were right out on the pool deck. The sun has a stunning atrium with 4 glass elevators that we loved. On the pool deck there was a welcome aboard party with the cruise director and the staff and also the Sun Production Cast that were singing and dancing. The party was so much fun and we were so happy to start out vacation. After that we went to the Four Seasons Main Dining Room which is the more relaxed dining room. The food on the ship was absolutely amazing!! So much to choose from and so much flavor, our favorite appetizer that Norwegian always has on all of the ships is the Pork and Vegetable Spring Roll- it is so good!!
After that day we had 2 relaxing days at sea spent tanning and going in the pool and hot tubs. The ports (St Thomas, Dominica, Barbados, St Lucia, and St Maarten) were absolutely amazing. This cruise has an amazing itinerary with 2 days at sea before the ports and then 2 days after. The ports were so amazing, we had never been to Dominica, St Lucia, or Barbados before so it was great to explore these new absolutely beautiful places. St Thomas and Maarten we had been to a few times before but the islands never seize to amaze me. (just because you have been to an island before doesn't mean you cant go again!, There is always something else to do and explore!) I will review the ports separately. They were all spectacular and beautiful. The Caribbean never seizes to take my breath away. The entertainment on the ship was amazing, there was a new show every night. Enjoy your cruise!
Barbados is truly one of the most amazing, beautiful places in the world. We took a cab to Carlisle Bay which was the most beautiful beach I have ever been to. The water is crystal clear and turquoise blue, the sand is pure white. At the beach there was a beach bar and grille which was really nice. We went on a glass bottom boat snorkeling trip which was amazing, we went to 2 shipwrecks and we swam with the turtles. Swimming with the turtles is an experience you just cant explain, it is amazing. There were at least ten turtles and one that was as big as a large suitcase. They were really friendly and we got to touch a lot of the turtles backs. It was an amazing day.
Dominica is a unique, one of a kind absolutely beautiful island. The motto "The Nature Island" is 100% correct. We took a tour van on a tour of the island. We first went to Morne Bruce which is an amazing viewing point where you can see the scenery, the ships and the amazing blue water. Then we went to the Dominica Botanical Gardens where there is so much to see and is absolutely beautiful. Then we went to the Emerald Pool which is a long drive away but well worth it. The drive is windy and mountainous and around every turn we saw a view more breathtaking from the next. Our tour guide stopped for us to take pictures and told us many things about the island. The Emerald Pool was literally one of the most amazing things I have ever experienced and is definitely a once in a lifetime experience. The pool and water fall was so beautiful. When we went back to the port there is a covered shopping area where the souvenirs are really cheap and also really nice and you can talk the people down in price a lot.
St Lucia is a beautiful place. We took a taxi ride to Rodney Bay which is an extremely beautiful beach, there we rented jet skis and we had a lot of fun. It was a beautiful day.
We have been to St Maarten many times before and everytime we go we love it all the more. It is truly beautiful. We always take the water taxi to Great Bay Beach where there is a beautiful beach with so much shopping. It has such amazing views it is breathtaking every time. It is a truly amazing and beautiful island that I am so lucky to have traveled to many times and hopefully more in the future.
Our ship, the Norwegian Sun was anchored in St Thomas so we were tendered to the tender pier where we found so much shopping that we have never experienced before in our past times in STT. Then we took a cab to Secret Harbor Beach, the ride was about 20 mins long and we got to see the inner part of the island. The beach was stunning, the white sand, the turquoise waters and the breathtaking view were all amazing. The snorkeling was fantastic and only a short swim from the shore. The beach bar/ grill Cruzans on the beach was fantastic, and everyone there was so nice and welcoming. The beach was not crowded at all which was surprising because there were 6 ships including us in port. We will definitely go to Secret Harbor Beach our next time in St Thomas.
