My husband and I cruised on Legend of the Seas on January 13, 2007, departing from Tampa for the western Caribbean. This was our 7th cruise and our first with Royal Caribbean. It was also our first Western Caribbean cruise. We left for Tampa the evening before we sailed and stayed at the Tampa Bay Grand Hyatt which has free shuttle service from the airport but was about a $25 taxi ride to the Port of Tampa. Breakfast was pricey. There are shops and an aquarium within walking distance if you have a late departure or arrive early. Next time, I would get a hotel in the Downtown Area to allow for some sightseeing. We arrived at 12 noon at the port but the ship was not ready and we did not embark until 1pm. Our rooms were not ready until 2pm. Our bags arrived in our room at approx. 5 pm.

Ship: The ship is showing its age and if you are looking for glamour, you will be disappointed especially since the pool deck flooring and chairs look a little worn and the main lobby and showroom are bland. However, if you prefer a smaller ship that is easy to maneuver, this is a good choice. I also believe that the older the ship, the better the food and entertainment  which proved true. The food was excellent and much better than what we experienced on our last Holland America Cruise. All of the fish dishes were excellent. The entertainment was usual cruise fare but it was appreciated that on a few nights the shows for the late dinner seating, which was at 8:30, were held before dinner at 7 pm. There was a good comedian and juggler. Main dinner seating was at 6pm each night. The dining room was quiet! Some of the newer ships we have been on lately have dining rooms that vibrate and are very noisy.

Room: We had a large inside room, on deck eight which I booked two weeks earlier at a very reasonable rate. While the room was of sufficient size with ample storage space and an excellent mattress, the shower was probably the smallest of any ship I have been on. While very quiet during the day, we were awakened each morning at approx. 4:30 by noise which appeared to be coming from the deck upstairs (this room was below pool area). The noise usually only lasted for a few minutes and was tolerable but could bother lighter sleepers. Deck 7 would be your best choice. Bring a night light for inside room and a digital travel clock. There is an inside safe and hair dryer. Basic soap and shampoo provided.
