Sunshine better than expected.

Sail Date: January 2014
Destination: Western Caribbean
Embarkation: New Orleans

We read many reviews on ships leaving New Orleans in January and chose the Carnival Sunshine. It seemed a toss up between this and the Norwegian according to reviews. So happy with our choice. The Sunshine was great. As with all cruises and vacations it is what you make it. It was cold back home so any place warm was going to be better. Right off we missed leaving our luggage with a porter so had to keep it with us until we boarded, we thought it would be a pain but as soon as we boarded they let us take it to our room and leave in front of the door. No problem, then off to a full buffet lunch, awesome.

From there it just got better. We left port for 7 great days in warmth and pampering. We love the late dining and took full advantage of ALL the choices in the dining room. Our head waiter seemed a little off his game, again we made the best of it and joined another couple for dinner and the long waits were filled with good conversation. Even though the head waiter was not up More to par our assistants were fantastic and tried to fill the void he left. Marija and Dina you are amazing women. Thanks for making our dinners great.

The food in the dining room, the specialty Italian restaurant, and Guy's Burgers was great. The buffet's were like all buffets it was good food but made for the masses. We never went hungry.

The staff all seemed very friendly and helpful.

As for other reviews of the Sunshine, we did not realize the ship had recently been refurbished and is still working out bugs. This being said we saw merit for some of the low reviews but in our opinion they have worked really hard to take care of most issues. As with any home, apartment complex, office building, or cruise ship you have maintenance going 24 - 7 to keep everything running smooth. The workers tried to stay out of the way and keep the ship clean and in pristine condition.

The entertainment is cruise ship quality. We enjoyed all the shows and entertainment but do realize most of these performers are young.

Overall our trip was wonderful and we would recommend the Sunshine to future cruisers. There were people of all ages young families, young singles, mid age, and many celebrating milestone anniversaries.

This seems to be a ship for everyone. Less

Cabin review: Carnival Sunshine 1492

Our room was amazing. This was our first ocean view room. WOW. We loved it. It had more closets and cabinets than we had stuff. This was the perfect area. As we went down the steps in the evenings we could hear all the noise of the day disappear and by the time we got to Deck 1 the ship was smooth, quiet and relaxing.

Port and Shore Excursions

Zipline Adventure

When we got to Roatan we went to the ZipLine Adventure. Awesome, the kids that work there are all great and ready to help you have fun. You should be in pretty good shape, as you have to walk a pretty long uphill path to the first platform. They have it set up in about 11 different platforms so you get to enjoy the views and get comfortable with ziplining. All the young men helping were wonderful. The equipment is a little smelly, I don't think they spray it with Lysol or anything. The great thing is you are close to the ship so you can go back and change clothes after the adventure. This is a great excursion!
