Ship Facts: Carnival Elation Review (by Cruise Critic!) | Carnival Elation Deck Plans
Fair cruise for price

We have been on several other cruises and 1 other cruise line. We were looking for a cheap cruise within driving distance from Illinois. 10.5 hrs to New Orleans. Boarded ship at 11:30 am without any problem. Rooms were ready by 12:30. Initial impression of ship was it is an older ship.Worn and tired looking in areas. 1 main elevator not working. Lido deck and pool/ slide looked old. Rooms had old big tvs with bad color. Furniture in rooms very scraped up and drawers coming off of tracks. Showers good sized but just outdated.

Had my time dining. Never waited more than 10 min to be seated. Had trouble getting waited on multiple times. They'd give you menus then not return for 20 min. We watched those by us get service quicker. So we came to the conclusion, my time diners who did not have set waiters got worse service. It was difficult to get any nonalcoholic beverages during dinner. Took a long time. Food itself was good. I'd go with set dining for better service. We never had this problem before. Ate at the grill on Lido several times and Tiffany's a few times. All was good.

We were a bit bored with the entertainment. We attended comedy shows and few others that were ok. Danced one night. Did some trivia. It was too cold and windy to hang out much outside.

Our 7 yr old enjoyed Camp Carnival. Came home with a few shirts and other fun things. The camp workers were great and had no security concerns.

Ports- really Progreso was a joke. I knew before hand it wasn't going to be nice blue water there, but still! I'm not sure why they dock there! You have 2 choices there, Mayan ruins or crappy beach/ yuck water.

We did Technotel. Boring. Basically watched people get trashed on the cheap tequila.

Cozumel- been there multiple times... Beautiful place! Did Flyhigh zip lining and beach break. Zip lines were fun and great for our son. Then went to El CID hotel for so called beach. Not good! Had a makeshift beach then a wall that dropped off 10 ft to ocean. You had to walk down stairs into the water with boulders. Though the water was very deep here and had good snorkeling. The cruise ships were parked right there, so not much of an ocean view.

All in all an ok cruise for the money, but there are sooooo much nicer ships out there with much much better itineraries for just a bit more money. Best for first timers who have nothing to compare to.
