Nice ship and excellant service

Sail Date: January 2014
Destination: Mediterranean
Embarkation: Barcelona

WE are an older couple and have cruised several times before. This was a quick, cheap winter holiday and our expectation were not high.

We live near Barcelona, so just needed a quick rail journey to Barcelona Sants and a 20 euro taxi to the ship.

We arrived about 12.30 and had a very quick check in, a short wait and then boarded the ship about 1pm.

The ship is not huge but very clean and well maintained. The style is well done although not to my taste and the lifts work quickly with no waiting. Our cabin was at the very front on deck 1 and sold as an interior. However it had 2 portholes and was a good size .As we expected the beds were at right angles, but the cabin was roomy with plenty of storage. Our luggage arrived in good time and we attended a sort of "welcome meeting" before the safety drill. The meeting was just for English speakers and went through everything very thoroughly..maybe in too much detail if you had cruised before. The drill was very More good as well without too much standing about outside!

We had the inclusive drinks package which was well worth the money!

We were allocated first seating for dinner (6.30) and this suited us just fine. We had a couple a drinks in the Welcome atrium and then went straight in to dinner. There were 7 courses each night and you could have as few or many as you wanted. The food was good and tasty and typical Mediterranean. There was always something good on BUT if you expect big slabs of meat, lobster or fish fillets and French fries with everything this is not the cruise for you! The wine was there waiting after the first night and the service was fine and not intrusive. We had a table for 8 with only 2 couples on it. We got on well and had a great time every night! We're not fans of set dinning but it worked out OK. We ate breakfast in the buffet which was the usual scrum and there was always plenty of choice..its served outside until about 11am....so you can sleep in if you want! The orange juice and coffee from the AI bar service are a lot better than the ones on the buffet. We lunched at the buffet or at open seating in the restaurant. The restaurant was quite slow at lunch time which suited us on the 2 occasions we used it.

We didn't plan on any time off the ship apart from a trip to Pisa. It rained so hard we were both soaked but had a reasonable morning in the centre of Pisa

The 2 pool areas were nice to sit around in the day and it was warm enough for a dip or two.

The shows were OK, not fantastic but given the multiple languages used were not to bad. We like the casino and spent most evenings there. The are many bars with live music and dancing and the bar service was quick and good.

There was no smoking anywhere other than outside on deck 4 or your balcony. Fine by us!

All in all we had a good week at an excellent price! Its not top notch cruising but its very enjoyable if you don't expect an ott American experience.

The best recommendation is we'd go again! Less

Cabin review: Costa Pacifica 1201

The cabin was a lot better than we expected, and had 2 portholes despite being sold as an interior! Its got plenty of storage and a bigger bathroom than we've had on more expensive cruises.
