falling standards

Sail Date: December 2013
Destination: Eastern Caribbean
Embarkation: Barbados

having cruised before on the dream it is difficult to notice how the refit has improved matters or what they spent the money on?

Flight - awful service and food, breakfast on the way home to Manchester was inedible, there might be reasonable leg room but width was very limited, also we sat near the toilets and could hear every "movement" as well as the constant banging of the doors. Drinks very expensive (I have flown long haul on 8 occasions this year but this is the first one I have been charged for drinks).

Food - the menu in the Orion was OK but the food did not live up to its billing, and in our opinion was bland, poor quality, and definitely not as good as before. Very repetitive in the buffets. Service whilst mostly with a smile was slow on most evenings (staff budget cuts?) but when we ate on a formal night 1st sitting they obviously wanted us out as I was still eating a salad when they were putting out the main course.

The late night buffet closed More at 1am

Entertainment - this was very poor and very similar most night (quiz, bingo, band, contrived and often juvenile game show more commensurate with Butlins, then same band yet again often having seen them in the afternoon round the pool, some talented shows but not much variety which was a shame as both comedians were quite good, not so much, the majority of the crew in their show which we saw twice (top class entertainment the brochure says) the staff were affable but which side of the pool deck can sing or shout the loudest is not good enough. New year's eve was very disappointing, Karaoke, dvd's of live aid or some other band, and a few large party poppers absolute rubbish!!!

Ports of call - its the Caribbean excellent apart from Dominica

Trips - another Thomson rip off v expensive! Do your own preferably with a group of friends. We did whale and Dolphin watch for a £100, only to be told on board the tour boat "it is not really time of year for whales there are no guarantees" no refunds either!! Didn't see so much as a Pilchard.

Value for money - Thomson never pass up the chance to charge extra with £10 for a steak, most drinks on the AI either crap or subject to a surcharge, £15 for steak under the stars £9 for "VIP" seats in the theatre, muffins in the medusa lounge, ridiculous photo prices, bingo, etc etc etc

All in all enjoyed the cruise for the ports, and the company but Thomson HAVE to improve

It was not acceptable to have small children running around the cabaret v late at night.

Finally we were going to book again for next year for the same time but with an more exciting itinerary but need assurance the Thomson have upped their game or will go elsewhere Less

Cabin review: Thomson Dream 7001

small but adequate lack of storage a problem, v quiet but for noise at showtimes from the broadway theatre above, cabin staff brilliant (Don Don)
