Wonderful Everything

Sail Date: May 2013
Destination: Western Caribbean
Embarkation: Fort Lauderdale (Port Everglades)

We took a cruise on the then brand-new ship, Allure of the seas. we were only the second cruise to ever embark!

This ship is beyond amazing- if you are looking for the WOW experience, this ship (or the twin ship Oasis of the Seas) is it!

Things to do: Ice skating, zip line, flow rider, mini golf, swimming, full size basketball court, rock climbing wall, merry-go-round on the boardwalk to name just a few.

Great eating options- free things included unlimited hot dogs or polish dogs with all the fixings on the boardwalk, sorrento's pizzeria open 24/7, pool-side cafes with hotdogs/hamburgers, the windjammer buffet, and the dining room. for a small cover charge ($7-10 per person) you can have ALL YOU CAN EAT Johnny Rockets diner food, Rita's Mexican Cantina food, and several others.

The difference between this ship, and Royal Caribbean and all other lines and ships is the ENTERTAINMENT! Carnival has a comedy show and a couple of other things, but Royal More Caribbean can fill your entire week with world-class entertainment. LIFE SAVING ADVICE: royal caribbean gives you the option to BOOK YOUR ENTERTAINMENT SEVERAL WEEKS BEFORE YOUR CRUISE, DO IT!! otherwise you will have to stand in an enormous standby line and hope you get in.

World class shows: Broadway's Chicago (the specific cast on RC's ship won a TONY!)

Ocean-Aria: world class diving show in the open air amphitheater on the back of the ship

Blue planet: crazy acrobatic show! great!

Comedy Club: good comics, very little seating

The crew is phenomenal, and the food and dining were wonderful. Highly Recommend! Less

Port and Shore Excursions

Mayan Ruins

We took the San Gervasio Ruins tour. requires some walking, but not strenuous. very impressed! great history if you're in to that sort of thing, don't know if it would be something kids would be interested in. some shopping at the ruins, people were very nice and not pushy at all.
Took a great tour with the tour guide telling us history of certain parts of cozumel as we drove by. would definitely recommend.

Dunn's River Falls

We absolutely loved Jamaica! So beautiful and tropical. We did the Green Grotto Caves/Dunns River Falls excursion, HIGHLY RECOMMEND FOR KIDS AND FAMILIES!
We got to see the absolutely gorgeous Green Grotto Caves. Lots of history there, and we went deep down into the caves which made for some cool pictures.
Then we got on a nice air conditioned bus and went to Dunns River Falls.
LIVE SAVING TIP: BRING YOUR OWN WATER SHOES, CLOSED TOE WITH GOOD GRIP ON BOTTOM, FALLS ARE SLIPPERY AND YOU HAVE TO PAY $10 TO RENT SHOES.
DO NOT SHOP HERE, DO NOT TALK TO ANY OF THE SHOP OWNERS THERE! You walk in the falls area, do the hike up the falls which is wonderful, but then when you leave the people just BOMBARD YOU. I know people who have gotten things stolen here, so be careful. Overall, I would DEFINITELY recommend this excursion.

Obviously this is something no one can control, but Labadee was UNBEARABLY HOT!
Sand was painful to walk on, burned our feet. This was an absolutely beautiful island though. This is a private island for Royal Caribbean, so you are provided a free Haitian barbecued lunch, which was not bad at all. Had some jerk chicken, ribs, etc. and fruit and salad.

BRING SOME WATER WITH YOU. If you have a soda card, you can get free refills on Labadee's island in the bar areas, which are all run by the cruise employees.

The excursions here were kind of pricey so we didn't do one, but we heard the water park and zipline were great.

Definitely somewhere just to spend some beach time relaxing, a more slow-paced island.

Shopping was good, lots of unique haitian things- but shop owners were pretty pushy. People asked for our name then went and carved it into a shot glass and insisted we paid $5 for it even though we didn't want it. we walked away, pretty crazy.
