Low Budget Cruise

Sail Date: January 2014
Destination: Eastern Caribbean
Embarkation: Miami

We have cruised on many ships from large ships to yachts. Celebrity has always been our larger ship cruise preference. This cruise was far from the standards of Celebrity. The ship being new is in great shape and very beautiful. We were in concierge level which is not worth the extra money unless you are crazy about a bathrobe. There are no value-adds that we could determine. Our stateroom and veranda was spacious enough and the same size as the veranda staterooms. Stateroom attendant aimed to please. Was was fabulous.

We had smokers near us and even though they were not permitted to smoke on the veranda it didn't stop them from doing so. They were reprimanded by stateroom attendant and supervisor. It didn't stop them. We couldn't keep the veranda door open because of the smoke.

Disembarkation at ports could have had better crowd control. Some people said that they stood in line for 45 minutes at one port. We opted out of getting off the ship early.

The More dining room staff was rushed and seemed to be on a schedule (of course they were). We were in and out. Consequently, our dining experience was less than satisfactory. We bought the premium drink package which included premium wines. We had two premium red wines from which to choose; seriously disappointing. We had purchased this same beverage package in the past and have never been disappointed in our wine selection. We dined in the main dining room for our evening meal and the food was not good. So unlike other Celebrity ships. Good news, we didn't gain a pound on this cruise. The food in the Cafe on Deck 14 was good. Salad bar was always fresh. The specialty restaurants cost $45 person not including wine. Reservations were hard to come by. We heard that these restaurants were very good.

Overall, this cruise was a huge disappointment and ranks about the worst cruise we have been on. Raises an issue of consistency across Celebrity ships. Although we have sailed with Celebrity in the past we are afraid to book another cruise. When we booked we paid the usual rate. As the sail date neared the prices dropped significantly in order to fill the ship. Our rate was not adjusted to the lower rates. We think they had to cut their food service cost to meet the budget.

At the end of the cruise we used their luggage valet service. The fee was $20 and well worth the money. Celebrity literally checked us in. We got our boarding passes delivered to stateroom and the next time we saw our luggage was at our final destination. Loved that! Less

The staterooms are the same size as Veranda level. Concierge class in not really worth the extra cost. Nice bathrobe. But no other perks like priority disembarkation at ports, etc.
