Old San Juan is just that. OLD!! There is alot of poverty and unfinished properties along the route to the fort. Shopping seems to be the thing there and with a few exceptions prices really weren't that cheap. Alot of road/street construction was going on and traffic was horrible.. I noticed an increased police presence everywhere?? Not very impressed..
Went to Maho beach. Was told it was awesome.. it is small, has a few places to eat and drink. It was very crowded as many people come to see the planes land and take off right abouve your heads on the beach. The rental of two chairs and umbrella was $20.00. Not too many to rent though. The water was beautiful and 80+ deg. (90%) of people never went swimming. No lifeguards either but you cna rent swimming rafts, etc if interested. Had to take a cab both ways $ total cost was 45.00.. I'm sure there are less crowded and nicer beaches in St Marteen.. I wouldn't do it again..
St John's Half Day snorkle was a great fun and exciting ride to and from the docks. The open aired bus had to travel some very old and scary back roads to get us to their dock. Once on the catamaran, (44 people). we were briefed on safety and set off for St John's.. Out ride there was awesome and very exciting as the captain rode us into the choppy waves giving us a gtrue feeling of sailing. The secluded area where we snorkled was filled with sea turtles, sting rays, all kinds of fish and beautiful coral.. Yes we actually had a barracuda stop by as some of the people forgot to take off their shinny jewelry..Go figure??...The time there was about 2 hours.. The ride home was enjoyable and drinks (champagne & rum) and snacks were served. We were picked up immediately and taken back to the ship after a great experience.
Awesome beach area, Lots of great things to see underwater. Worth the two hours snorkeling off the ship..The water was clear, blue/green and warm..80 deg?
