Travelling with friends who are keen "Cunarders" this was my first time on QM2.
I was not disappointed, the stateroom on deck4 was a sheltered balcony which perhaps in the Caribbean or height of the summer may not be ideal however on a winter North Atlantic crossing, which I might add QM2 was designed for, not bobbing around the Caribbean, it was perfect.
The staff onboard from the deck hands to the room stewards through to the staff in Britannia were polite, professional and very good at their jobs, there was always a friendly smile or a hello from all staff when walking around the ship.
Our room was set up as requested as a twin and was more than comfortable, perhaps the only downside was the lack of tea and coffee making facilities however room service was quick and easy.
The food was not bland as written in other reviews it was fantastic, perhaps other reviewers prefer "chocolate buffets" and food buffet tables groaning under the weight of mass produced food rather than subtle flavour combinations, presented I might add superbly.
We found on some nights it was difficult to chose what to have on the menu thanks to the choices available.
Dress code...well for an Englishman who understand the need to dress for dinner, this ship and company is perfect. Three formal nights in black tie were adhered to by the majority of passengers the only disappointment was a few people on the non formal nights (shirt and jacket, tie optional for men) was not adhered to and incidently not managed by the staff onboard.
We didn't chose to go to "Kings court" to eat but you can use those areas of the ship if you can't be bothered to dress for dinner post 6pm
The wifi is expensive ..be warned.
We found the drinks to be similar to London bar prices and had no issues with the gratuity on drinks etc.
Afternoon tea served in Queens room was superb but busy..be warned this is a highlight for many on a crossing so the majority of tables are occupied soon after the doors open.
This was a fantastic experience and a special treat, may not be ideal if you don't relish the chance to dress for dinner and observe "quaint" British customs ...
QM2 is wonderful and a proper liner, don't expect climbing walls or flashing neon lights... Calm peaceful and classy.
