My husband and I did back to back 7 day cruises on Celebrity Summit departing the 16-November.
We had never been on the Summit before and were looking forward to these two cruises.
We decided this time to book a veranda as we have cruised on Concierge and Aquaclass before and had decided to see the difference. We also had the cruise package as well.
For the most part the room wasn't any different than Concierge, except we had a much smaller shower than on any other cruise. The bed had to be retied as the two twins wound up coming apart, and we had to get a foamy put on top of the mattress as the bed was extremely uncomfortable until that point. It was much better after that, but not perfect by any stretch.
The state room attendants were great on the first leg, and then slacked right off on the second. There was even two days that our rooms didn't get cleaned until almost dinner time, and we ate at the late seating.
Our dinner waiter for the More
first leg was absolutely awesome, but the second legs waiter should be fired!
Our food was cold, when we got it, it took forever to get our dinner, most of the food was not what was expected of Celebrity Cruises. The assistant Maitre'D even brought the head chef and his assistant out to discuss our ongoing problems...there was never an apology from anyone...just lots and lots of excuses.
This was the biggest disappointment for us as we had made very clear how many times we'd cruised before, and that we have a daughter who is a Red Seal Chef, so we know exactly what type of food we should have received. Not impressed.
The other biggest turn off for us was the beverage package - there was never enough bartenders at any of the bars, nor were there enough bar servers around. We firmly believe it's Celebrity's way of dealing with the massive popularity of the booze package...again, too bad.
We loved the comedian, and the ports were absolutely amazing. We'll be flying back to more than one for a longer stay.
Getting off the ship was a breeze, thank goodness, because we'd seen what the line ups were like on the first leg...there was at least an 1.5 hour waiting line to get through customs. Obviously that's not Celebrity's fault, but I'm glad they second leg wasn't as bad...
My husband and I cruise every year, at least one cruise a year, but usually two, so we're very well traveled. We don't expect perfection, but these two cruises, except for the ports, was very much a downer. We will have to seriously think and discuss as to whether or not we want to continue sailing with Celebrity, or if we'll cruise less often, but go with the truly all inclusive cruise lines instead (Seabourn, Regent, Silver Sea, etc.).
We're tenatively booked on another Celebrity cruise in March 2015, so we've still got time to decide to do it or not. All we can hope is that Celebrity starts really listening and changing things from this site and from the comments provided onboard.
On the positive side, we met some great people, and yes I missed the forum meet and greet. Less
