I am a Soldier in the US Army and while deployed in Afghanistan, I decided to take a cruise and see Rome and the Mediterranean for my two week R&R. I flew my mother from the US to experience her first time overseas, and first cruise. This was also my first cruise. I'll try to break this up into the usual review items but let me start with some info on my one week stay in Rome prior to the cruise.
Pre-cruise Rome Lodging:
DO NOT stay at a hotel. I rented a 1 bedroom apartment through airbnb.com and paid $488 for 7 nights with a full refund if I had to cancel. Via Generale Roberto Bencivenga 70 Rome, Lazio 00141 marys.ianniello@gmail.com. The apt was clean, beautiful, had a private terrace. My host even picked us up and dropped us off at Termini. She also stored some luggage while we went on the cruise and even drove it back to us at Termini when we returned. Our host Mary was amazing.
Room: Balcony, Room 7109. Nice, clean…but lacked storage and was small. I don’t know if I could’ve made it without the balcony. It made the room seem bigger. I don’t know how people manage for a week in an inside room with 4 people. I ended up sleeping on the couch and using one twin for bags. Balcony was a nice size with great view. Worth the extra to be able to have fresh air, great photo ops and somewhere private to retreat to. The bathroom was nice and spacious and had enough storage. Felt minimal movement, but had a loud drunk woman next door. They don’t allow smoking but my drunk neighbor did anyway. Our room steward (don't recall his name) well he SUCKED! I adjusted gratuities…he was rude. My mother drank a coke out of the fridge and he charged our room even though we had drink package. It was adjusted but he was very rude when I asked him why were we charged. I felt like every time I left the room, that’s when he went in. HE was by far, the only negative employee I encountered on this cruise.
