We spent the previous day in NYC, did a bus tour, and saw Christmas Spectacular. It was one of the best shows we have ever seen.
Embarkation- no issues. We arrived at 1030 and were on the ship by 1145.
Shows: Burn the Floor exceeded our expectations and was an excellent show. Rock of Ages was good but we would have preferred a show that appealed to a larger demographic. Slam Allen and his band were great and can really play some blues.
The Waterfront was has lots of good seating when the restaurants are not open. It is not used as much during the winter cruises.
iConcierge seemed like a good idea but wasn't for us. It constantly disconnected. I had an iphone 4 and had to forget WIFI, reconnect, and hit cancel to the internet connection prompt 2x to get the iConcierge working again. My wife is not that technical and never used it.
Allow lots of time for delivery if ordering pizza, especially during busy times.
We ate at Cagney's the first night and took advantage of the free bottle of wine. The food and service were very good.
Le Bistro - the food was great but the service was not attentive. We had to get up to retrieve our wine, which was located in a wine bucket behind our table, ourselves when needed. Do not sit at the tables outside because it was too crowded, noisy and smelled like cigarette smoke. We have enjoyed this venue more on other NCL ships.
We avoided the Manhattan room during busy times because of all of the reviews we read. We had no issues during an in port lunch there.
We arrived a half hour early for Savor and there was a huge line by the time it opened. The food was disappointing except for the desserts.
Garden Café: I thought it provided a wide variety of food to cover any taste. It seemed to always be crowded so when you go there always check the aft section for open tables. Also go upstairs to the Uptown Grill where there were always plenty of seats and short lines.
La Cucina: For the price, it is one of the best pay restaurants. I wish they would offer their pizzas for $5. It would be worth it.
In my opinion the free sit down restaurants are not designed for the large volume of people. They don't have enough staff and resources to cover them effectively during busy times. So if you go there during the busy times expect a longer wait and less attentive service. Complaining will not help and be nice to the hard working staff. They are working as hard as they can given the circumstances.
The pool areas were always crowded on sea days but if you go up a few decks there were plenty of chairs and it was not crowded at all.
The obstacle course (Walk the Plank) and water slides were awesome.
Epcot: This was the only excursion we did. We left the ship at 12:15 and were in Epcot at 1:45 pm. We only had time to do the World Showcase part which was great. The last bus left at 7:15 for the ship.
We always make sure to stay on the ship during one port day so that we can really enjoy it: Not crowded and no lines! This is when I did the water slides and obstacle course. We also played miniature golf and I played a little basketball.
The entertainment staff was excellent. We had a great cabin steward. The friendliness of the crew in general has been better on other NCL ships we have been on.
Overall the positives were far greater than the negatives and we really enjoyed the cruise on the Breakaway. We have sailed with NCL previously and will do so again.
