Bored out of our minds
The ship was clean and all staff was very helpful. This was my 6th cruise so I am not new to cruise lines and have been on several different cruise lines. Food was the same every day in the buffets. Dining room menus were alot better but portions were so very small. I am a small women but still portions were small. The lack entertainment while on the ship was so very bad. If you have kid under 12 the kids club is probably fine. If you are any other age you can plan on eating dinner then going to bed. I am 51 and my children 20 and 23.
Off the ship you are on your own or you can do excursions which were good, pricey but good. On the ship at night was where the problems were. The evening shows and lounges consisted of Frankie Valle and the 4 seasons impersonators, a really old comic, a lady that was playing Billy Joel songs on the piano that did not have a good voice. So where with these choices were we to go? It wasnt just my kids it was myself not having anything to do. No More dancing club, no casino (I dont gamble either way but people do), no place to hang out and do anything really. only one guy that played the guitar pretty good but he was in a wine bar area. It was alot of money to have no nightly appropriate entertainment. Other cruises have had dancing, or comedy that was age appropriate, or magic shows, or SOMETHING!!!
I will never take another Norwegian cruise and neither will either of my children ever again. To be in your cabin by 930 every night and then to not even have movies to watch in your cabin? Come on! If you are going to go on a vacation spend your money on Carnvial where there is something for everyone or try another one like Royal Carribean. Less

Cabin review: Pride of America 7518
The cabin of course was very small to be expected. The balcony was about the same size as the cabin. It was nice as it seemed that our living space was larger. The queen bed was good but the sofa one was sleeping on metal with a small pad. ok for a kid. but not for a teenager or adult.
Port and Shore Excursions
Volcano National Park & Hilo Waterfall Tour
The tour included the macadamia nut company tour. There was no manufacturing going on that day and the company was closed. The videos that they had running did not work properly. Every time you pressed the English button the Chinese language video came on. But the Volcanos were good, and the Rainbow Falls were good. Would have liked more time to walk around. 15 min each place was not enough.
No time for an excusion due to flight times. We had 4 hours to kill so we thought we would take a taxi to the International market place, and Alamoana shopping place. It was very expensive to do that but was most frustrating was the port itself. They charged $5 a bag to hold onto your things after spending alot of money on a cruise. It cost us 55 dollars to hold our bags for 2 1/2 hours.
It was a great experience for us on both days! We enjoyed the kayaking and the tour group really looked after everyone and made it very enjoyable. Lots of bug bites but other than that loved it.
The snorkeling the next day was the best excursion we had the whole trip. The snorkeling was good but it was our tour guide that was so fun and funny it made the van trip to the beach and back so very enteraining. We laughed the whole way
Cloud Forest Sanctuary
It was supposed to include tour of Kona coffee company but it was just a shack with samples of coffee. There was an area to walk for a view but you had to be with an employee and there was no employee there. Also it was not a cloud forest, it was merely a jungle walk. You have to look down the whole time so you dont slip or trip on a root so there is not much to see if you have to worry about falling. Not worth the money.
Although we did not take an excursion there was a mall near by and a free shuttle to get there. This allowed for people to do something off the ship. There was also transporation (buses) from the mall to take you to other parts of the island. the information was easily accessible. The only problem which cant be changed was that the port was far from everywhere worth going. All the normal tourist places were a 55 dollar one way if you wanted to take a taxi so it almost forced people to do an excursion
