This was my 1st experience with Princess Cruse Lines and we were very disappointed. Cabin was not what we expected. Photo on Princess’s website and 2 others websites for cabin P328 all show a larger cabin and layout. Bed was push up against wall because of room size. Very deceptive! It is a good thing that I am not as large as some of your guest because they would not be able to fit in the shower. Room was clean but not ready when we arrived. Not even soap. The ice bucket disappeared on 3 different days. Stateroom cabin and service was not what we have come to expect on past cruises on other cruise lines.
Food was not always very good. Long lines at buffet because staff was not attentive and did not open up other lines to take care of peak dining times. Once you made it into the food area food selection was limited and often over cooked. At times there did not seem to be enough staff to replenish empty food trays. Food selection limited. Other cruises I have been on have other separate buffet venues. Chinese, Mexican, etc. Need more self service options for drinks on Lido deck because staff was not always very attentive. Appears to be either a lack of management or very lacks management on the Lido deck. Table turn over was slow. This may be because of slow drink service and in some cases lack of tableware leading to guest staying at tables longer then need be. Dishes not always clean.
Disembarkation was very unorganized and chaotic. Crew did not follow disembarkation instructions being announced over PA to start with. We choose to carry our own luggage off. Crew stopped disembarkation after group A and decided to have the luggage taken off the ship while we all waited. Crew was telling different stories to guest because they appeared to be uninformed about what was going on. People were getting angry of disinformation and waiting with no apparent reason other than poor planning. After over 1 ½ hours of no instructions other then disembarking A & B (only A disembarked) we decided to leave the cabin and get in line. Glad we did because crew did not seem to know what they were doing.
Ships crew and management does not seem to be very well trained and this may be the reason this cruise was not very good. Even the ships Captain seem to be indecisive at the end of the cruise. We went to bed on Friday night expecting to have to stay on board until Sunday because of frog and high winds only to find out Saturday morning that we would be disembarking that morning. Because the weekend before Christmas is one of the busiest airline travel days of the year changing from Saturday disembarkation to Sunday and then back to Saturday at the last minute created a lot of problems for many passengers that had changed their flights. We live in the Houston area so we were glad to get off Saturday.
I understand weather issues but there seemed to be more going on then just the weather. Could it be that Princess Cruise Lines intervened for financial reasons and pressured the Captain to change his plans at the last minute?
This was my first cruise on Princess Cruise Lines and quite possibly my last. There were passengers that had cruised on other Princess ships with good experiences so it just be the Caribbean Princess. The Houston Port Terminal is another issue. I can see why it took 4 years to get a cruise line to use it and why the Port of Houston had to pay the cruise line 7 million dollars to use it. It sucks!
