Great time for our first cruise

Sail Date: December 2013
Destination: Western Caribbean
Embarkation: Fort Lauderdale (Port Everglades)

This was our first cruise. My husband and I went with our teenage daughters who do not share our love for sun and fun. They pretty much sat in the room which was ok. We had a good time. The whole thing went pretty smoothly from getting on the boat to disembarkation. We didn't need to stay in a hotel as the airport was within an hour from our home. We had an ice storm right before so the most stressful part of our trip, was making the actual airport., which we did. We paid for the bus from the airport to the cruise ship with our travel agent ahead of time. i would recommend this.

The ship is super funky decoration wise. We liked it. It is over the top in terms of the mix of materials used..many colors and textures all mixed together.

The staff were all very nice and accommodating. Our waiter Marlin was adorable and funny. His support staff were all very efficient and willing to help make our trip fun. The ethnic diversity of the staff is awesome..many beautiful More accents and beautiful faces. We never did room service and often had the kids in the room so they didn't get in to clean our room every day but that was ok with us. We did like the cool towel animals that appeared in our room.

We tried many different excursions.. Grand Cayman was our favorite port.

On the boat, we pretty much laid in the sun. We never had trouble finding a lounge chair. We drank many cocktails by the pool which was such a joy. especially when knowing that there was snow and ice at home. We participated in one trivia game because we happened to be sitting there. We saw a couple shows which were good, and tried to listen to the latin band that played several times on the ship as they were super fun. We danced one night on deck, until it seemed that it was pretty much just teenagers left.

The cabin was nice, large enough for 4. We had a window and would probably get a balcony next time. I am prone to seasickness but did not experience any during the trip.

Food. People always talk about the food on cruise ships. The food was ok. We did not overeat, and exercised every day. We took a yoga class and used the gym. Both were nice. We also walked/ran on the deck.

We tried to see the sunrise everyday. It is nice to be on deck to see this, and to be out there when it is not so full with other travelers.

The disembarkation was fine. it took several hours but we had a late flight so we just hung out and napped a little.

We would recommend this cruise and plan to cruise again. Less

The cabin was clean, large enough, and met our needs fully. Having a window was nice. We will probably try to get a balcony for the next cruise.
