Ship Facts: Norwegian Breakaway Review (by Cruise Critic!) | Norwegian Breakaway Deck Plans
Norwegian Breakaway Cruise - December 22-December 29th 2013

Dec 22 - Warm 70 degrees, beautiful citiscape of NYC and the Statue of Liberty

Dec 24 - arrive in Port Canaveral - waste of time, only thing to do is go to a shopping center. Dont wast your time

Dec 26 - Due to be at Great Stirrup Cay - small island owned by Norwegian. Simply a Beach. This destination was cancelled when we got there due to high waves, unsafe to take boat to the beach. Staff wonderful, were able to get into Port into Nassau same day gave us extra time in Nassau.

Staff - wonderful, very clean ship, very hard working staff, wonderful steward, room service awful, Captain wonderful.

I had a studio room. Looks very small in pics, but actually has more closet space than the suites! Very comfortable. The room does not get steamed up from the shower...... they have air purifiers on the ceiling, great ventilation. The bed was very comfortable. Slept like a baby.......very easy to sleep in all moring being there is not a window with light coming through. Very quiet.

Hands down, the best entertainment was the Slam Allen Band in Fat Cats. He is great witht he audience, true down south Blues, fantastic. Saw him 6 times. Also,

The Cirque dinner show was great, well worth it, and the food of course was great..........awsome filet mignon with potatoes. The comedy act which is free was funny. The Ice Bar was awsome. They events on board that you dont see before you get on the ship in your itinerary --------- Family Feud, Battle of the Sexes was great.

Buffet - ok - it is buffet food. Good for breakfast and lunch. Use a restaurant for Dinner

Best all included restaurants - Taste and Savor. They actually have the same menus, same food, but on different nights. Food in both places, top notch, high quality, decadent food. I wish there were more choices however. I ate steak several nights, mushroom dishes to die for including their mushroom ravioli, shrimp dishes excellent - cajun, garlic butter etc. Note - you can ask for a double of any of the items on the menu. If you want alot of shrimp or calamari, ask for a double of the item. No charge.

The staff is excellent. They are their to please 100%. The stewards very nice and accomodating. Very clean ship, very hard working. They work 10-18 hour shifts. Very hard work. I tipped my steward to show appreciation, and because these staff memebers barely get paid and are immigrants if you tip them lets say a 20, they are greatful. I loved the washy washy gir (you will meet her in the buffet area), loved the captain, the announcer, everyone that works on the ship. The only people with attitudes were room service.

IF you have kids this is a great cruise for you, but please, have someone supervise them. If you do not have kids and want to relax, dont take this ship. It is out of control. The kids were out of control, ages 10-21, running around all day all supervision including staff to watch kids party into hours of the night on the 15th deck. Truly annoying, really pissed off alot of adults. Kids running around drinking, hanging in the smoking area, smoking pot near the theater, and with all the cameras this ship has, no one did anytthing until the last night when a stupid drunk kid threw a chair at a 8 year old and cracked his head open. I ask myself...........where are the parents? This may be vacation but you know that when children are set free they are going to party and get into trouble..... I called security...... alot of teenagers (meeting, hooking up, making out on the stairways, in the hot tubs etc) while parents are downstairs doing what they are doing. Also, any alchol you buy in the store on ship is held to the last night........ Well the last night apparently parents gave there kids booze, they were drinking amaretto bottles, and rum in the smoking area. This ship is full of kids.

Negative 2.- amount of people on ship

Way over crowded. I now realize - bigger ship is not better. 4900 passengers. Picture 2000-3000 people rushing in to eat at the buffet. Awful.

Negative 3 - Room Service

Room service is awful. They failed to deliver for 4 days. When they finally did deliver - I wanted coffee and croissonts, well they delivered hot water. They than redilvered, but it was decaf. Forgot the creamer and sugar. I finally gave up. If you ask for room service at night it takes 1 to 1 1/2 hours to get food.

Negative 4 - coffee

If you are a coffee lover - bring your own coffee. coffe on the ship is weak and disgusting. The Note - studio lounge people can get free espresso, macchiotos, etc, but elsewhere other cabins get coffee makers. Studio rooms do not have a coffee maker or fridge. If you like coffee like I do, bring instant, or a small 1 cup percolator with you, well worth it. The studio lounge has hot water available for tea or making yoru own coffee. Coffee from the Lavazza place very expensive --------- 4.50 for plain coffee.

Negative 5 - Doctors office - Health Insurance.

I got sick . Nothing negative about the office, just that a office visit came out to 120.00 and Note - if you are in the ocean, not at a US PORT - you cannot submit it to your insurance. If you are in the ocean it is considered intenational waters. Unless you have international insurance it wont be covered.

Studio Rooms

small showers. Otherwise very comfortable. The showers will accomodate a large person, but still tight.

Bar -

The bar servers in the wave bar on floor 15 rude as hell. Watch your receipts they rip you off. Drinks are not what I was told in price. They run in the range of 10-14.00 each unless you get special of the day for 8. Drinks are very good though. They treat you like s&^% if you dont tip them. (tips included in our tickets!) If you tip them, they treat you well. Sorry, I am not giong to pay 15.00 for drink and tip.

Hated it. Avoid the Straw Market - they are theives. I got ripped off, sales woman took money and never gave me my shirts I bought, dealt with Security/ Police and they did nothing, corrups. Filthy environment. NOT SAFE. I won't ever go back to Nassau, ever. High pressure in the straw market. Avoid it. Junk, and they are beggars. Be aware of beggars on the street. Deaf woman walks around everywhere begging to sell you her baked food. If you are going to go to Atlantis - do cruis exursion. We chose not too, took a little boat for 4.00 each to Atlantis Paradise Island, walking to Atlantis off boat is about 1.2 mile to the Coral tower. We got there and the hotel would not let us even walk around. They said 179.00 to walk around. Take the excursion for 59.00 to walk around. If you try to walk around yourself without paying the hotel fee you will be kicked out. Security everywhere and check to see if you have a white wrist band on showing you are a hotel guest. You can get into the casino that is it.
