Day 1 : Drive to Louisville at 4:30a was cold and dark. We had to turn the heat on. Got to the airport and parked in the garage. Walked in with 2 bags full of neatly rolled clothes, which were small enough to fit in the overheads. Left Louisville on time and landed at ATL on time. Pulled up to the gate and as the plane stopped, several people stood up; including me so I could stretch my legs. Without warning, the plane started rolling backwards. Apparently someone forgot to chalk the wheels. The pilot noticed after we had rolled 5-6 feet and slammed on the brakes. HUMAN DOMINO’S ! Everyone standing took a tumble in reverse. The poor lady behind me (about 55 years old, thin, maybe 110#) was crushed by my 245#’s landing on her and crushing her between me and the lady behind her. She was not amused. I apologized and helped her up. I ended up with a big smear of makeup on the back of my shirt. She ended up with flawed makeup and a ruined morning.

The flight from ATL to MIA was uneventful. Found the NCL rep near baggage claim easily. She was great. We waited maybe 15 minutes and were ready to roll. Ride to the dock was uneventful. The gentleman standing near the bus offering to take our bags onto the boat was somewhat less than courteous. He seemed more interested in discussing a personal matter when a friend than providing us direction. I had to ask if he was taking our bags onto the boat. He answered “Of course.” I asked if he had tags for our bags. “Of course….. if you know your room number.” I guess when you are doing it every day, so make some assumptions, but as a newbie, I was expecting someone to just about hold my hand along the way. Maybe I was expecting a carnival barker or something; but our bags did arrive at our room within an hour. Getting checked in with credit card, passport, pictures, etc., was very easy. Before we knew it we were on the boat and looking for maps. We had only been on the boat a short time when an announcement let us know our rooms were ready. I am guessing that was about 2:00p. We threw our bags in the room and continued walking around the boat. Definitely wanted to make reservations at Cagney’s and the Italian place (we opted to forego the French restaurant), and went downstairs to sign up for an excursion at Freeport.

Dinner at Cagney’s was excellent. I ordered a fillet- medium, and it came to the table with blood on the plate and very very rare. But a quick nod to our server and it was off to the kitchen and back in much better shape. The meal, with the wonderful view, background music, and smiling staff was one of the best parts of our trip and we were excited that things were going so well. After dinner, we were in Capt Cook’s bar singing with the piano player who was a riot. He reminded me of a restaurant manager making extra money playing in a hotel lounge. Everyone was laughing and having a good time.
