We cruised out of Singapore to a few stops around Indonesia over Christmas. Whilst no one hated this cruise - we certainly overly didn't enjoy it either - especially having sailed with much, much better cruise lines.
The Costa website is the hardest website to use. Not one single thing was easy, especially as we are Aussies who booked through an American company. We had nothing but problems from start to finish. Apparently a booking number isn't good enough!! Nothing is compatible. Totally useless really.
THE CRUISE on Costa Victoria -
Embarkation was good, though Vacations to Go (Florida, America) failed to provide adequate information for the departure point (Marina Bay Port) - pretty much failed to supply most information actually.
The food on this cruise was only just ok. Gordon Ramsey is desperately needed onboard to sort out the useless Chefs and boringly bland, repetitive food.
The service by wait-staff is practically non-existent - truly the worst service we have ever experienced anywhere in the world. It doesn't help that this ship is completely understaffed (Costa should be ashamed). They seemed completely overwhelmed by simple requests - like a glass of water, couldn't/ wouldn't clear or clean a table down.......and a lot of them didn't speak English....even though Costa assured us that "all staff are trained in the English language"!! This was a complete lie.
The same dirty sheet was left on our bed for days and not changed by the house-keeping staff. It was easy to tell this, as it was stained in one small area where a bit of cookie had been smudged on the bed. Also, even though we are a married couple (25 years +) they gave us single beds, we had to push them together ourselves. When we moved the beds, the carpet was dusty and had quite a lot of dust bunnies around the edges of the room itself.
WARNING.....THESE ARE THE SMALLEST, MOST CRAMPED CABINS YOU COULD FIND. There was barely enough room to manoeuvre around the bed, unless you stooped over the bed to avoid hitting your head on the bunks above. Terrible if you have a bad back. Only one stool to sit on for two people - not even a real chair. The tiny table was cluttered with brochures, cups etc. The minibar was locked the whole time.
The pool area needs a complete refurbishment - it was disgraceful - as were the bar staff. Failed many times to get even simple drinks correct. Iced-tea instead of Asti Spumante - a gin & tonic instead of scotch & coke.....rediculous really.
Some entertainment was very good but it was pretty hit & miss most nights.
The one bright point of this dismal cruise was the "Animation Team" - they were good fun and by far the most professional people onboard except for MJ who worked in Spa Services, she was a lovely lady.
HOWEVER, OUR FIRST CRUISE WITH COSTA WILL BE OUR LAST CRUISE WITH COSTA. Upgrades are needed in every single area.
