A Hurricane is not the ship's fault!

Sail Date: October 2013
Destination: Transatlantic
Embarkation: Southampton

Flew American Airlines nonstop Boeing 777 economy service Miami Heathrow on Thursday Oct 24th through the storm headed for the British Isles.Due to a tail wind ( jetstream) arrived over London 90 minutes early but then had to circle for an hour. Typical non-comital service on board due to their bankruptcy problems and upcoming merger. Chauffer driven car transfer to Southampton was a pleasant trip. Novotel Hotel was very good considering the advance booking discount we received and convenient location. Due to the major storm (hurricane strength winds) hitting the British Isles we were forced to stay at the pier in Southampton for 3 days and 2 nights. Because of this delay ( for the ships and the passengers safety) we skipped the ports of Le Havre, Vigo, and Punta Delgada, We did manage to visit Lisbon and Bermuda. Having done this identical trip the previous year on the Grand Princess the forced change of itinerary was no problem for myself or traveling companion. Princess generously More gave everyone on board a 50 percent credit of their base fare as a future cruise credit good for two years. No complaints here!

The food was good. The ship was clean, The staff was pleasant. Our cabin Aloha 616 was underneath the storage galley for the Horizon Court buffet so at closing time and opening time there was some noise from movement of pallets or cartons but nothing worth a cabin change. Dinner in Sabatini's a la carte Italian was a lovely experience. We chose anytime dining and wound up at the same table with the same staff on 10 out of 14 nights on board. We did not attend any entertainment venues on board so can not comment on them. We self-toured Lisbon on foot and Bermuda by bus and had a fine time in both places.

Disembarkation in Fort Lauderdale was a bit drawn out as there were not enough US Customs on duty for the very large amount of non US citizens on board so some feathers were ruffled. No complaints with Princess's handling of anything but I'm sure others would disagree.this was my 114th lifetime cruise and my 7th of 2013 so not too much upsets me any more. Princess was a great value for the fare paid and they more than made up for the bad weather with their future cruise credit. Im sure others will be on here with horror stories but take it all with a grain of salt! Less

perfectly acceptable in terms of size, amenities, closet and drawer space. Inside central sft location contribute to a less rocky ride than other locations on board. Located under a storage galley for the Horizon Court buffet som some news from inventory shuffling from time to time.
