We had a wonderful trip

Sail Date: October 2013
Destination: Europe - Eastern Mediterranean
Embarkation: Istanbul

Having Travelled with Voyages of Discovery before we decided to try the new ship. We loved Discovery but Voyager has its own merits. We knew many of the Pilipino staff, the officers and the captain. Such wonderful people. We had a welcome cabin upgrade before we went and if you have travelled with VoD before you get a discount.

We chose this cruise because of the itinerary. In the footsteps of St Paul and Ancient Civilisations. The weather stopped us going to Carthage and the FO advised against Cairo and Alex. Never mind, it leaves something left to do. The rest of the trip was excellent. We loved the choice of trips, and yes you do have to pay for them but there is a range of prices. All the trips are graded from 1 for little or no walking to 5 which is very strenuous. You choose. We found the guides very knowledgeable and approachable. We learned so much everywhere we went. Some trips were half days but most of what we chose to do was fill days. Meals are arranged for us on More full days and often feature local cuisine.

The lectures on the boat are very informative. The lecturers know their subjects and present them in a variety of ways. I particularly liked the lectures on iconography and one on TE Lawrence. The port lectures are always helpful.

The evening entertainment is excellent. Such talented young people. There is live music in the bar all evening and there are classical and popular styles.

We used the main restaurant for a few evenings and liked the open seating but our favourite place to eat was the Veranda buffet. The same food but buffet service and eat as much as you like, miss some courses, eat extra puddings!!!! As vegetarians we were well catered for.

We didn't run up too much of a bill on board but we had wine every night and cocktails and special coffees. The wine list is quite extensive and even the house is nice with a meal.

This company care about issues such as it being remembrance day when we were on board. They organised a service lead by one of the lecturers.. They also organised a collection for the Philippines relief effort.

This was the first cruise where we had chance to go on the bridge. Very interesting.

A big thing for us on these boats is that is no casino!

We will definitely travel VoD again. Less

Cabin review: Voyager

Small but very comfortable. Lots of storage space, good lighting, good beds. Two Windows(not portholes). Quiet, just heard some of the music in the evening. Not an issue.
