My partner and I have sailed with NCL about 7 times, 1st time on The Breakaway Dec. 8-15, 2013. The ship itself is similar to The Epic which I have sailed 3 times with a improvement to the cabin size and great bathroom layout. My major complaint was the weather, which is not under NCL's control, but why would a cruise originate out of NYC in December?? We spent 3 days prior to the cruise in NYC and unfortunately it also rained or snowed. Also out of 7 days cruising, only 3 days in Bahamas and Cape Canaveral were warm and sunny. Two days getting there and 2 days returning were so cold and windy, we did not even use the pool decks or walk the promenade which is a wonderful idea.
The ship itself came through with its variety of entertainment, again, similar to The Epic. Burn the floor is truly an amazing dance performance, and I am not a fan of dancing reality shows. Slam Allen has even improved his performance with mixing with the audience, and I loved it before. Tried 4 of the specialty restaurants, Le Bistro, Cagney's, Teppenyaki, and La Cucina. They were good but this time around only Le Bistro was worth the up charge. The Manhatten room quality was very good (especially the sirloin on the everyday menu), but found the variety of the menu was not as varied as on previous cruises with NCL. However, the band is much too loud to converse while having dinner.
I loved the location of our cabin. Decks 6, 7, and 8 are where most things are located and we rarely took the elevator unless we were going to the garden café, which we did not go during peak times. Did not have an issue with the elevators except the last day. Had the mini-ste which is much wider than Epic's but the balcony was almost too long as could not see the ocean from bed because the side walls were so deep. Not a far walk across the ship that I noticed, as I tend to be directionally challenged, so saw more than I planned on.
