Our 12 days on the Eqiinox was wonderful. I travelled with my girl friend and was a little worried we would feel out of place as 2 Middle aged women (I can't believe I just admitted that) and a ship potentially filled with couples. Thanks to cruise critic, we built some wonderful relationships on and off board.
The ship was top notch! We had considered cruising with an all inclusive ship but since this was Brenda's first cruise, decided to go with Celebrity. After a day, she summed it up by asking "what else would we need." We were fortunate to have booked when there was a promo available and enjoyed an on board credit and a beverage package. We upgraded the beverage package for a nominal fee and would recommend this to anyone. Tips are included in the packages so calculate this before you make a decision.
After connecting with fellow cruise critic travellers pre cruise, we booked all of our tours in advance. Our tour of Rome was especially good with a group of six of us and an intimate private tour of the Vatican.
We also had days in Naples, Santorini, Ephesus, Arhens and Malta. All were wonderful. Malta was a hidden gem we were not prepared for. We just hopped on an open bus in Valletta and say the whole island.
Our state room was well maintained. 1 night was loud when our neighbors had their tv on really loud but that was isolated. Out steward did a good job although we barely saw him.
The food in the main dining room was very good. Service was outstanding. The staff work incredibly hard and we tipped the dining staff frequently. Maybe this helps with the service??? We and our "dining family" opted to go to one of the special restaraunts one night. It was nice but not really something I would do again. The breakfast buffet was always bustling with the staff all smiling and bidding us a happy "good morning". There were endless choices available. We ordered room service one morning and were disappointed. The food was cold and unappetizing. We had lunch in the dining room one day and it was wonderful! Other than that we made plates from the buffet and took them to our deck chairs. We frequented the cafe twice a day. They made great lattes to start our days and perk us up late afternoon.
The entertainment was ok. We never made it to all the shows but out of all of them, none really stand out. They had the same performers doing the cirque du soleil show as the broadway show and as talented as they were, it just didn't work.
I had only cruised with Carnival in the past and that was great with kids. As just adults, celebrity was really good and more refined than Carnival. Perhaps that had to do with the European influence?
Imbarkment on the Equinox was pleasant. We arrived at 1130 am and were having lunch on the deck by noon. We spent the rest of the afternoon on deck chairs enjoying the sun till our room was ready. Disembarkation was painless. We had booked through the ship for transport to the airport and they had us there hours too early. Next time, I think I will book private transport and sleep in a little more.
We are sailing on the silhouette in January with a group of 7. I hear the 2 ships are very much alike.
I would highly recommend the Equinox.
