Having just returned from a 7 night cruise on the beautiful MSC Divina, sailing 30th November to Western Caribbean, we feel we must address some of the, in our opinion, totally unjust comments already posted by our neighbours stateside
The star of the cruise was indeed the ship itself. Everywhere gleamed and staff were constantly visible polishing and keeping it looking immaculate. The Golden Jazz bar was a particular favourite. We were lucky enough to have a balcony cabin ( on the twelfth floor). It was well appointed with a lovely large, soft double bed although we do agree that the TV channel choices were limited. Despite its position on the ship the cabin was very stable with little to no movement felt. All aspects of the ship did not disappoint us - open public areas, the pool decks, excellent gym and spa facilities, large theatre and bright dining rooms,
As brits we do not expect a waiter constantly "shadowing" us !! indeed some may find this intrusive. We never encountered any rude staff, although we did sometimes find the bar service during the day a liitle slow. Our cabin steward was particularly pleasant and always had a smile and a word for us if we met ( and not because we had constantly tipped him)
Buffet food was plentiful and of more than an acceptable standard. Dirty plates were efficiently removed without fuss by the waiters. In an evening we dined in the Villa Rossa restaurant on first sitting. Every night there was sufficient choice from the menu and our waiting staff were pleasant and kept our drinks replenished as required. My husband particularly enjoyed the lobster tails.
The entertainment at night was well produced with a talented cast including speciality acts such as acrobats and contortionists. One way to introduce a little more variety would be perhaps to introduce a comedian as a stand alone act one night. If more to your tastes the Casino had a good range of tables and fruit machines.
One point we must make was that the cruise was shared with, among others, a group of Jazz enthuisiasts and over 1500 gay American guys and Drag Queens! ( a large privately arranged tour with their own itinery of events). You can imagine the sights we saw !!! Whilst we had no problem with this - you just have to act as if its perfectly normal for grown men to be mincing past in high heels, tiaras and tutus, womens swimming costumes - we were led to believe that other passengers were not so keen. This did mean that most nights some areas of the ship were out of bounds, due to private functions taking place, which was frustrating. So on a cruise you never know who your fellow shipmates may turn out to be.
As a comparison last year we cruised with Royal Caribbean, and cannot say that MSC were under par by any means, and if the cruise itinery suited us we would travel with this company again.
