My husband and I were both apprehensive and excited for this cruise -- we were celebrating our anniversary. When we set sail, my husband's eyes were like saucers -- "we are moving!"
We thought we had done some much homework before leaving home, but we still found ourselves learning as we went from day to day. We stayed at the San Juan Radisson before and after our cruise and it was fine for the short stay we had.
We found our cabin and cabin steward to be perfect for us. We found ample room to store our belongings and the bed was very comfortable. We opted for a room with a ocean-view, and it made all the difference in the world to us -- helping us to know when we were in port and when to close the shade.
Our dinner table was wonderful for the couples that were assigned to sit with us. Our wine steward and head waiter were the best. They remembered what we liked and always asked or prompted us with suggestions. The food was good, but the quantities could have been a little more ample. Some nights it felt like we were eating all appetizers or tapas.
We were not happy with entertainment options. We had thought that there would be more steel-drum bands playing by the pool or onboard -- we had to disembark on islands in order to hear a few at the docks. We were also surprised at the majority of the music having a Latin influence to it onboard. We felt there should be been more offerings in the restaurants or bars with a variety of music -- big band, jazz, oldies, soft rock, etc. The shows in the theater were wonderful -- and what a theater it was!
Island disembarking was easy and the time allowed on each island seemed more than ample. We wish we would have scheduled our excursions before leaving home -- trying to do any island found us swarmed with locals looking to take us here, there, and everywhere. Here's where we learned something after the first 2 days.
Disembarkation was a bit drawn out -- I think we were one of the last groups to be called off the ship. We never received a copy of our Sea Pass Statement before departing the ship and found out upon flying out of San Juan that we should have received one. Now we are into our 3rd week home and still trying to secure a copy of our Statement.
In summary, we loved the cruise. We had to unwind and relax before we truly could enjoy this new world of vacationing we found. We will definitely cruise again and enjoyed Celebrity based on the majority of the cruisers were in our age bracket (35-65).
