New England/Canada cruise departing 7 Sept was our third cruise, all with Celebrity &worth every penny. We put our cruise dollars into the cabin, and Aquaclass did not disappoint. Our steward, Diana from the West Indies and her able assistant Acajoe from India kept our cabin spotless and provided that extra service of being sincerely committed to us enjoying our voyage. Diana realized we particularly enjoyed starting the day with room service coffee, FRESHLY squeezed OJ and pastries. She made sure we had plenty of request cards and cheerfully fulfilled our requests. Know that we returned her professionalism by making only reasonable requests. She ,Acajoe, and #9046 get 5-plus stars.
Boarding was delayed when the security computer went down, but the dockside tent had plenty of chairs, non-alcoholic refreshments; boarding maybe 30 minutes late. Glass of bubbly on the way to the room, which was ready. Seeing the Statue of Liberty from our balcony was one of the unexpected things making this a great vacation.
Aquaclass gave us entree to BLU whenever we wanted. Maitre'd Luigi insisted upon seating guests himself, worth the short wait. The service by Luigi, Rambo and Sydney our waiters was outstanding, especially since BLU was usually full or near it. Our sommelier, Jomqwan, made excellent suggestions, and knew how to pour. They noted those times we did not dine there and all asked if there were any way they coud make our "BLU experience" better. No. Sometimes we preferred the menu in the MDR, where the chateau briand was perfect. Also the view out the two storey stern windows. Service was excellent given the crowd. MDR's Joe and Gabriella always welcomed us--personally--and saw that we promptly got a good table. We like being at larger tables than at BLU and meeting other cruisers.
I made a point of talking to veteran cruisers, who had taken 10 to 92 (yes!) cruises, all of whom said that for the money Celebrity is tops. YES.
At NORMANDIE, Summit's top specialty restaurant, we were served by Andre and two others plus the lady sommelier. Service was efficient & friendly, but not in your face. Andre's table side preparation of our lobster was worth the cover charge, all by itself. We saw him, Tim, and Lucian elsewhere on Summit and were always warmly greeted by name.
Bistro on 5 had the best chocolate dessert on the ship, served by Ariawan, another credit to Celebrity.
Our Captain's Club concierge, Chester Tercero, was particularly helpful I getting me the bridge tour. Service Desk personnel Bruno, Nadia and Angela were equally helpful.
My wife and I experienced what a previous Cruise Critic reviewer said: Celebrity has a corporate culture of making each passenger enjoy his or her voyage to the fullest. Captain Zakkas, Fabio- food & beverage manager, Cruise Director Steve, BLU waitstaff Gana, Jovana--all gave us that extra caring effort.
