If you have cruised before you will find that the Pride of America does not have the WOW factor of other cruise ships, that said if you consider the ship as a place where you go to sleep and to have a quick meal you will enjoy the cruise. The ship is very clean, the rooms were well maintained and our steward made sure that we had clean towels every day and the room was kept tidy.
FOOD: Freestyle type of cruising. The buffet was somewhat repetitious with very little meal variation daily but everything they served was very good. The two free sit down choices were the Skyline and Liberty. Both have similar menus with daily variations. We had a bad experience at the Skyline, service was extremely slow. We had the opposite experience at the Liberty, great service. My suggestion would be to go to the Liberty and request Katie P as your server, we found her to be the best there. We made it a point to find her on the last night and give an additional tip.
ENTERTAINMENT: We attended a number of shows with "Oh What A Night," a Jersey Boys type of show, Toby Beau, music, and Bud Anderson, comedian, probably the best. We found all the shows very entertaining.
Pool:If you're a fan of lying by the pool forget POA. The pool is tiny, and usually crowded as are the deck chairs.
SHORE EXCURSIONS: We only booked one shore excursions through NCL, the one in Kona because this is a tender port. We were asked to meet in the theater as a group and then taken down to the tender which turned out to be a mess as they didn't keep the group together and many got mixed in with other people trying to get on the tender. Some almost missed there excursion because they had to wait for the next tender. Would have been nice if they had made sure we were all together since they had us meet as a group. We booked all of other excursions through a business called SHORE EXCURSIONS and saved a considerable amount of money
PORTS:The ship is not moored in the city or close to any downtown area, usually we were docked in shipping areas with views of shipping container.
TIP: Reserve a cabin with a balcony on the port, left, side of the ship. The view of Nepali Coast is the best from that side and the view at most ports is better also.
Would we do this cruise again? Yes, for the destinations as it's easily the most hassle free way to see Hawaii.
