Ship Facts: Nieuw Amsterdam Review (by Cruise Critic!) | Nieuw Amsterdam Deck Plans
Just the facts!

This was a 14 day collectors voyage western/eastern Caribbean cruise

We were in the signature (superior veranda) suite 6098

Hotel service charge was $24.00 a day

There were helpful weekday mats in the elevators

there was a small book exchange in the library at the Crows Nest lounge

On the Promenade deck (3 laps equals a mile) there were no Lanai cabins

there were 120 padded teak chaise loungers on that deck

Imagine 4 ping pong tables outside on deck 10 for a ship filled with septuagenarians and octogenarians??!!

Cabanas were mostly empty

Plastic loungers around seaview pool weren't padded

Continuous taped music around that pool was unrecognizable. Not once was anyone able to name that tune

Drink waiters around the pool were asking if you wanted a bar drink every 2 min. not relaxing at all

Suite had 12 drawers including 2 that locked with keys

Safe was in cupboard. It held my netbook and my wife's purse easily.

There were 20 hangers. Your room steward could get you more

Suitcases could be stored in the cupboard or under the bed

Balcony had 4 padded chairs, 2 ottomans and 2 different sized tables. It could be looked with a key

Largest balcony we have had on any HAL ship

No smoking neighbours for 2 weeks!! HURRAH

Cleaned the balcony including the glass panels 3 times

All doors balcony or room closed quietly. This was a bonus

Our room stewards cleaned 28 rooms, 3 times a day, 7 days a week for 10 months. Long days

Received 2 striped towels in our room and these were only ones to be taken ashore

Used these sites off the ship to keep in touch

Cayman Islands...Cafe Del sol 200 yds up Fort St. for the price of a coffee (you will get Cayman change) a bar just after you go through he duty free store

Key West... Sipping Coffee Shop on Duval at Caroline St.

Turks... free at Froot's juice bar in the duty free area

San Juan...outside the Sheraton hotel which is across the street from the docks. It is free

St. Thomas...$4.00 a day in the duty free area . Get password at the Love and Joy convenience store

Bought wine off the ship in,

Cayman Isle 200 yds up Fort St at Tortuga Liquors, cheaper than in duty free area

Key West...Cheepee Lquor just off Duval St

Turks... in the duty free area

St. Thomas... in the duty free area

Which side faced town or the beach...

Port side in Half Moon Key, Cozumel and the Turks

Starboard side in Key West and St Thomas

Bow on in the Cayman Isles and San Juan

Canadians on the Rogers phone plans can use their phones in the Cayman Isles, St Thomas, San Juan and in all of Florida

I hope these facts will help you if you choose to sail on the Niew Amsterdam on this route

take care...bobpell
