Great Choice for a Quick Get-A-Way

Sail Date: November 2013
Destination: Mexican Riviera
Embarkation: Los Angeles

Just got back yesterday from three great nights on the Golden Princess. After seeing the mixed reviews here we were a little concerned, but I can tell you it was a great experience from beginning to end. This was our 2nd Princess cruise and our 20th cruise overall, and our 5th time to Ensenada.

First, we booked a mini-suite (E721) and I think we ar ruined for life as a result! The minisuite is about 50% bigger than a standard cabin. Since we were cruising with our teen daughter, this was just the extra breathing room we needed. There was plenty of space for all of us and our things, a full-sized bathroom with a tub and a great shower, separate vanity area, two TV's, a mini-fridge, and of course a great balcony.

The ship is older, but still in very nice and well-maintained condition. It is a very beautiful ship. We especially enjoyed all the tucked-away bars and lounges with their interesting cocktail menus and entertaining and engaging bartenders. There are 5 pools More all with great lounging areas and plenty of space. The jacuzzis were hot and there was always room. We went to kareoke; took a Zumba class with a fun instructor; used the gym which has a large assortment of new cardio and weight equipment; saw both a comedy show and the production show, and enjoyed both. The library had a great book selection and a bunch of family games. So the overall ship experience was excellent, especially compared to the other ships that normally do this short Mexico cruise for Carnival and RC.

We ate pizza at the Prego pizza place, the Horizon court buffet, and the anytime dining at Bertilini's. And the tea time at sea day was a highlight - dont miss it! We liked anytime dining because we like to have a private table. We never had a problem making a reservation the day before for our preferred time. Service was excellent, food was good but not stunning. We had a pork belly entre that was the best entre for sure!

Ensenada was Mexico. Enough said. Next time we will just enjoy the ship all day.

If there is room for improvement it is that wifi rates are insane. So we just disconnected for the cruise duration and that was very nice.

We came home ready to plan our next quick get-a-way trip Less
