This was our 2nd cruise with the Caribbean Princess in one year. We had sailed in April through the southern caribbean and enjoyed so much we though booked this cruise out of the port of Houston.
This was only the 2nd cruise out of the port of Houston. It is about an hour drive from Houston International airport and the scenery is sure different from Florida. One oil refinery after another. It port itself has one terminal for the cruise ship…there is a container ship port right next to it.
Embarkment took longer due to the malfunction of the gangway. We left the port over an hour late.
We had booked the same cabin again and to our delight our room steward Siegfred was still on duty and was happy to see us again..that was nice and he did an awesome job throughout our cruise.
The entertainment staff had change from April and it was very noticeable..not nearly the same energy on board…the comedian and the magician were great, but that was it.
The food in the Palm Dining was good…we had the same waiter from the previous cruise and him and Noel made our dining experience very enjoyable and so did the 2 nice couples at our table from Vancouver.
We are not big drinkers, I had one cocktail and found it overpriced..only had wine for dinner.
We did notice that there was nobody cleaning around the ship…the glass dividers were always dirty and the balcony glass was not cleaned either. We had previous sailed with Carnival and the staff on their ships were always out cleaning the railings etc.
We had 3 ports on this trip..Cozumel were went rock climbing and snorkelling, Roatan were we also went snorkelling and did a nature walk and Belize. It was raining in Belize but we still went on a snorkelling tour. All the tours have improved very much over the past 10 years and the level of expertise from the tour operators is outstanding. They explained all the fish and corals and local plants to us.
My husband did use the gym which was good, however there was only one working shower.
Disembarkment was a bit of a disaster. Due to very heavy fog, the port was closed for 3 hours and instead of docking at 7.00 am we docked at 10.00 am. We always do the walk off options and take our luggage with us. And good thing we did…we still made our flight at 4.00 pm..we know that other passengers on the same flight home didn't make it because they didn't get their luggage until 2.00 pm.
Overall we did enjoy our cruise..the staff was friendly, the food was good and so were the ports. Not sure if we would sail out of the port of Houston again…only if the price is right. We did book another Princess Cruise for next year..on the Emerald Princess and hope that we won't be disappointed!
