Oh Well!!! It was a cruise

Sail Date: November 2013
Destination: Bahamas
Embarkation: New York (Manhattan)

As usual we arrived the day before the cruise and enjoyed a bit of NYC. We also stayed a day in The City after the cruise. This is our 4th Carnival cruise, 1st on the Splendor and all out of New York. We opted for a Suite as with previous Carnival cruises.

Check-in was a breeze as with prior cruises but boarding was another story. This time as Suite passengers we had to wait for Diamond and Platinum passengers to board (along with the not Diamond or Platinum family, friends and neighbors traveling with them). Also the woman in charge of boarding got rather nasty with people. Not a good beginning.

The ship was wonderful, clean and well maintained. Some may not care for the décor but it was fine for us. Navigating from the front of the ship to the back is challenging on Decks 3 & 4. The Black Pearl Dining Room is in the middle of the ship so you have to go up to Deck 5 then down again. Takes a bit of getting used to.

Dining More

The taste of the food was fine. I may be fussy but we felt the selection was poor in the Dining Room and as always seems to be the case Lido food is never hot enough. Also People loved the Wok food (which was hot) but the lines were horrendous. May have to add a couple of Wok Stations. I Love The Big Hot Dogs. The pizza crust is too thin.

Officers and Staff

The wait staff and cabin stewards were terrific and made the negatives tolerable. Never saw the Captain or other senior officers. We didn't go to the Past Guest Meet & Greet. That's another story.

The Showroom shows seemed a bit amateurish to us and not up to Carnival standards. The solo acts were just OK. The comedy acts were fun and we looked forward to them. We preferred the family rather than adult acts. Sometimes I think the comedians tell the jokes just for shock value not humor.

We had a lot of fun listening to the karaoke. There were so pretty good singers.

The movie screen on Lido was probably the best thing on this cruise. When I originally told my wife about it she was far less than excited but after the cruise she keeps talking about it.

We've been to these ports so many times... So little to do, so when you go a second, third, fourth, etc. We do however, have a bar in Nassau we visit every time and have our share of Bahama Mamas.

Sounding like a broken record. We were disappointed as Suite guests we didn't have priority disembarkation as we have had on all previous Carnival cruises. If we decide to cruise with Carnival again we'll know we no longer get priority boarding, etc.

Yeah, Not our favorite cruise but hey it was better than no cruise. The ship was clean, the staff treated us well, we ate well and we did what we wanted...relaxed. Will we cruise with Carnival? Probably but I think it will be a while to rid myself of some of the negatives on this cruise. Less
