Nice New Ship, however.....

Sail Date: November 2013
Destination: Eastern Caribbean
Embarkation: Fort Lauderdale (Port Everglades)

My wife & I are avid cruise ship fanatics. We were so looking forward to cruising on the Royal Princess that the days went FAR too slow. When we saw her docked in FLL on her first 7-day Caribbean cruise, we marvelled. The largest Princess ship at 1,082 feet in length, with an extra deck (the Mariner deck were we stayed), as well as the new/innovative Sea Walk and SeaView Bar on the Lido deck with glass floors that protude 130 feet above the ocean.

Our new category "Deluxe" balcony statement was very well appointed with the new Princess "on demand" entertainment system which worked flawlessly.

The new, expanded (by 50%) Horizon's Court was superb. Great food every day with superb crew service who were always at one's demand.

And the new, and much larger, Atrium is spectacular with the excellent International Cafe. And a new Gelato's cafe next door with Italian ice cream. Yum.

However, some observations:

Still wondering which "genius" at More Princess, or member of the Exec. Mgmt. team, would EVER agree to remove a mid-ship, as well as an aft pool, on a ship with 600 more passengers that the latest Ruby and Emerald Princess? And replace the mid-ship pool area with a useless water fountain.

As well as non-existent mid-ship staircases next to the elevators for passegers. A DEFINITE security hazard which we have already reported...

We paid an extra several hundred dollars to get a new "deluxe" balcony cabin. The one - and only - extra "perk" we got was a 2-seat couch, rather than a 1-seat chair. And a "tiny" balcony.

As compared to Holland America which offers guests a 3-seat couch, extra room, as well as a bathtub in a much larger cabin that Princess for the same price.

Although this may have sounded like a negative review on the Royal Princess, it was not meant to be. It was a great ship with a few flaws. We simply found the ship not up to Princess standards.

As some Critics have said: Would you cruise on Princess again? YES. Would you go on the Royal Princess again: NO.

Actually, on our recent cruise, there was a BIG rumour going around that Princess has STOPPED work on the new Regal Princess to

Heard on board the Royal from several passengers that work on the new Regal Princess has halted to correct several "planing" flaws... It's due... Less
