We recently sailed for the third time on Explorer of the Seas and had a great cruise.
Embarkation was efficient.
Ship was clean and in very good shape.
The crew was one of the friendliest we have experienced.
The Captain Henrik Loy was great. He gave daily televised briefings that were informative and interesting.
The cruise director Leigh was good and his sidekick Erky from Turkey was hilarious.
They made us laugh everyday.
Our cabin was in good shape and our steward Wayne Quinn did a great job.
Dining was also very good. Service was excellent at both breakfast and dinner.
Our head waiter Kevin did a great job.
The assistant waiter was the star. His name is Coco. Always smiling. Any request was answered with "it would be my pleasure"
The food was good except the steaks.
Breakfast in dining room was very good.
Windjammer buffet was good as well.
Portofino was good.
Entertainment was okay. Not as good as before. Ice show was nice but needs a refreshing. Same as on our 08 and 2010 cruises.
The only two negatives were the door slammers and self assist walk off.
The early birds start at 6:15 AM and let the cabin door slam. It sounds like someone is hitting the wall behind the bed with a sledgehammer. I don't understand why people are so inconsiderate. It is like this on most ships. The cruise industry needs to address this. I build hospitals and have stringent fire codes for doors and ours don't slam. If they do we adjust them.
The self assist disembarkation needs help with elevators. They need to identify which ones are to be used by those using the self assist program and those being used for general use. Not the way I want to end my cruise by fighting to get an elevator.
Once again the crew was the best, always asking if you needed anything and very friendly. Good job!
We have always enjoyed Explorer of the Seas. May go again before they move the ship and hope they move the entire crew to the Quantum of the Seas for our cruise on the new ship.
