Our Carnival Cruise for our 26th anniversary was out of New Orleans. This was the easiest port ever to embark! In less than an hour from the hotel shuttle dropping us off, we were on the Lido eating lunch with DOD in hand!
The Elation is a beautiful ship, the decor is so pretty and the ship is very clean. It is a smaller ship, Fantasy class, and we have sailed on the Fascination so we were familiar with the layout. The crew was wonderful, very happy and friendly and helpful.
The only thing I did not like about the cruise was Cozumel. The vendors on the streets were very aggressive, to the point that it made you uncomfortable. Progreso was great, the military presence was kind of disturbing, but the excursion to the ruins was wonderful, our tour guides were great and the bus was comfortable.
Disembarkation was as easy as embarkation! We ate breakfast on the Lido with friends while waiting for our zone to be called and it was not long at all.
I would do this cruise again but book an excursion or stay on the ship in Cozumel.
New Orleans is my new favorite city to visit!
The port itself is nice enough. You need to take a cab to town where the shops and restaurants are, cab drivers will stalk you to get your fare and be sure to haggle the price we had one going to charge our party of four 12, and another offered 8 so don't let them rip you off. The streets are full of vendors and they are very aggressive, to the point that it makes you uncomfortable. The will actually grab at you and refuse to take no for and answer. We ate at Carlos and Charlie's which was so so food, the drinks were good. When I go back we will book an excursion and not go to town, or we will stay on the ship.
Very good walking tour of the cemetery with lots of information about the history and architecture in the French Quarter.
The bus was very comfortable, the guides were entertaining, knowledgeable, and friendly. The ruins were awesome, you can climb on them. The trip to the restroom was a cultural experience. We went to a cemetery and that was interesting, a fantastic church where local children performed a traditional Mayan dance in traditional attire. Then we went to a resort for a Mexican buffet and some time on the beach and by the pool. I highly recommend this excursion.
