Sail Date: Dec 2006

My wife, our adult daughter and myself sailed on the Century over Christmas leaving on December 18, for 9 days of wonderful memories. This was my wife's and my 31st cruise (4th time on the Century) and our daughter's 10th cruise (second time on the Century). We were originally booked on RCCL Grandeur of the Seas which we spent Christmas on its inaugural year, however when we say that the Century was doing a 9 day cruise (instead of their usual 4 and 5 day cruise, we changed immediately. Century is one of our favorite ships, but since we don't do 4 or 5-day cruises, we had stopped going on it. We also wanted to see the new revitalization that they talked about so much.  more on that later.

We usually go down the day before and stay in a hotel and then get on the ship at our leisure however Celebrity was able to save us over $200 on each airline ticket, however it meant flying down the day of the cruise. Oh well it was worth the money! We left our house at 4:00 a.m. on the 18th and arrived in Miami at 1:30 p.m. Waiting for luggage is a joke in Miami. It took over 1½ hours for our luggage to arrive! They (Miami Airport, not Celebrity) really need to do something about their service down there it boarders on ridiculous. One saving grace, at least we were not flying through Denver. There were a lot of people who didn't catch up with the ship until Ocho Rios or Grand Cayman. What a rotten way to start their vacation, really felt sorry for them. We got our luggage and were directed to the bus. The people from Celebrity were very visible and very helpful. Now it was off to the ship. Check in was a breeze. Since it was after the main rush, we were able to walk right up to the counter, check in and on to security. I really believe that Security is looking more for booze than anything else. We did not have any (at least in our carry-on) so it was no problem. We skipped the photo  we had been traveling since early in the morning, the last thing I wanted was a picture of that! One thing about the photographers on Celebrity they are not at all pushy like some of the other lines. A simple no thank you is sufficient. They are also not in your face all the time on the ship which is nice too.

We were in an outside room 5041. It was on the Plaza deck and was really convenient to everything. The room was a little smaller than what we have had in the past on other ships, but since we don't spend a lot of time in the room it really didn't affect us. The closet space was great. I think they take the award for the most storage space in a room. The bathroom was typical, I had read in other reviews that they were small, but I have to say we have had much smaller ones on other ships. Our room steward Dennis greeted us and did a wonderful job the entire cruise.
