Carnival Pride - Mexican Riviera

Sail Date: December 2006
Destination: Mexican Riviera
Embarkation: Los Angeles

We were on the December 10 sailing. We live in Southern California and took the Super Shuttle to Long Beach. The Super Shuttle trip to/from had it's challenges to the point that DH and I may never use this shuttle service again.

We were scheduled to arrive around 9 am, but didn't arrive until after 10:30 am (driver tried to take us to Los Angeles three times even after we kept telling her we weren't going to LA, but to Long Beach). Therefore, we were unable to take the tour of the Queen Mary. We were able to get in the Zone 1 line and the wait after check-in was about 1 hour. We were on the ship by 12:30. Our cabin wasn't ready so we went to have lunch on the Lido deck.

The Pride is a beautiful ship! This was our first cruise with Carnival and we didn't know what to expect. We were not disappointed. The crew were probably the best I've experienced. They were excellent at remembering our names.

The food was good to very good. I really liked the different More food stations versus having all the food in one general area. We ate breakfast and lunch in the dining room a couple of times and the food was very good; the service was excellent. We enjoyed the shows the crew performed at dinner. Dining, rather we ate at the buffet or the dining room, was always pleasant.

We really enjoyed the shows. We attended each show every night and enjoyed the Pride dancers. The singers were average. JeRome, the comedian, was funny. We really enjoyed the cruise director and the assistant director, Karl with a K.

We did not go on any excursions, but did get off the ship in Puerto Vallarta and Cabo San Lucas. As soon as you get off the ship in Puerto, you can see a Walmart and Sam's Club :). Cabo San Lucas is beautiful and the water is a beautiful blue (similar to the Caribbean water). We did not get off in Mazatlan as it looked like LA to us :).

Our cabin was spacious, bigger than any ship we've been on. The bathroom was also spacious with plenty of room for toiletries. One of the tips I read on the boards was to take clothes pins to put at the bottom of the shower curtain so it would stay it place. Whoever suggested that one needs to receive an award :). It really does work.

Overall, the cruise was really enjoyable; however, I don't think I could ever not enjoy a cruise :). We do like the Eastern or Southern Caribbean ports the best, but would not hesitate to go on the Pride again. Less
