Carnival Glory - Western Caribbean

Sail Date: December 2006
Destination: Western Caribbean
Embarkation: Port Canaveral

Our trip started out very disappointing! This was our first cruise and we were very excited to go on the cruise. The staff checking in was courteous and helpful however once we boarded the ship we were on our own to locate our cabin. There was not any direction on locating elevators or anyone to answer questions. Our room was not ready when we boarded but the room stewart let us leave our luggage and directed us to the lido deck. We found the lido deck and was shocked at the size of the pools. The Carnival Glory boasts 4 pools. The pools were so small I thought they were the hot tubs! We made our way into the Red Sail restaurant and found cafeteria style food. The food also tasted like cafeteria food. The best food on the ship other than in the dinning room is the Pizza and the Fish and Chips. The food in the dinning room was much better that what we had expected however the portions are very small but very good all the same. Our room was what we had expected small but very clean and More very cozy. We had an inside room and it was very nice. Small but very nice.

The service on board was mediocre with the exception of the dinning room and the room stewart which were outstanding.

The first day we experienced many disappointments. Once we accepted these disappointments we were able to move on a have a fun time.

We stopped at Cozumel which was wonderful. We took a taxi to a wonderful very small beach called Mr. Sanchos beach. Mr. Sanchos is the mayor of Cozumel and has this great beach with chairs, food service, a bar and a small flea market. There is not an entrance fee or a chair fee. You will be greeted at the gate and treated like royalty! If you choose not eat or drink you pay nothing! If you do eat the food is great and inexpensive. For my family of 4 we paid a total of $48.00 for lunch, 2 bar drinks and countless cokes. The fish are all around you in the water so for the novice the snorkeling is great. Again at no charge.

We then went on to Belize. IF YOU ARE NOT DOING AN EXCURSION DO NOT GET OFF THE SHIP!! Since we had great success in Cozumel we tried again to get a taxi and go to a beach! Don't do it. There are not any government run taxis and once you leave the cruise terminal it is very dangerous and unsafe. We could not located a taxi once were were outside the terminal just a bunch of people surrounding us wanting to take us anywhere. We saw a Radisson hotel to the right of the terminal and walked there to try and get a taxi. We spoke with someone there who called us a taxi and took us to a private man made beach which was a 5 mile ride. The taxi was a very old lincoln which kept stalling and the ride was very scary. The taxi driver waited for us to decided if we wanted to stay at the beach but we choose to go back to the boat. My kids were terrified and wanted to go back. There were quite a few other people from our ship who did exactly what we did and were very scared also. Many people who did not take the excursions stayed on the ship knowing what to expect once in Belize City.

Costa Maya is a fun place! Someone on our boat told us about a public beach that you can take a taxi to. It was exceptional. A similar experience to Cozumel.

Our ship arrived very late to Nassau which cut into our time there so we had enough time to get to the public beach (beautiful) stay an hour and had to board again.

The shows at night were entertaining. But since our expectations were greatly deflated the first day we actually enjoyed the mediocre shows.

We will never take another carnival cruise and we agree with another post here that Carnival seems to be the Walmart of cruises. That is just not what we want for our vacations.

My children loved it. They did not go into the kids club but roamed the ship. We took our walkie talkie radios and they worked great.

I hope you find this information useful. Trust us on Belize!! Less
