This was our 10th cruise and the 4th with Carnival. We live in southern Georgia so we drove south the day before departure and stayed overnight at Fort Pierce about an hour and a half away from Fort Lauderdale. This was an 8 day cruise from 12/18/06 to 12/26/06. Embarkation was the easiest we have ever had at Fort Lauderdale. We managed to park in the parking garage right beside the Legend. We dropped the luggage off at 11am and we eating lunch in the Unicorn Cafe by 11:30am complete with complimentary champagne in hand. This was our first Spirit class ship and we really liked the layout. We had a balcony cabin with an extended balcony, and our steward Anthony introduced himself as we checked out the cabin. The service throughout the ship was excellent and we always received smiles and welcomes everywhere we went. The food was very good and I cannot think of any meal that did not live up to expectations. This was our first time dining at the early seating and we have decided that we prefer the later seating (a little longer between lunch and dinner!) Our waiter was good, but his assistant was even better. I must make a special mention about Victoria, one of the seating hostesses and Kriss, the assistant maitre'd who both did a fantastic job and were super friendly and efficient. We enjoyed some meals in the Unicorn Cafe but generally ate at Truffles, the main dining room for breakfast and lunch. We much prefer not having to fight our way through food lines if possible. One big surprise was that there were no hand wipes or sanitizers. Having cruised on the Liberty over Thanksgiving (just after the Norovirus outbreak) where sanitizer was everywhere, it seemed strange to see none. We enjoyed all of the production shows and attended the craft classes (free and great fun) and all of the dance classes. There was so much to do my DH complained that he hardly had time to fit in his nap! We did not do a tour at Colon, but walked around the shopping area. Not the most welcoming of locations but we did do some shopping for souvenirs. We loved Costa Rica and did a great tour: bus, train and boat. The guide was very knowledgeable and we saw many animals up close and personal. The canal boat part of the tour really was excellent. In Belize we did the Altun Ha and Wallace River tour and were very disappointed with this tour as what we did was not what was listed. The guides shortened the Altun Ha section (not that Joyce our guide seemed to now much about Altun Ha anyway) and took us to a hotel for over an hour where it seems we were expected to buy lunch, and then instead of a boat tour down the Wallace River looking at local wildlife, we boarded high speed power boats and sped down the river flat out. Everyone ended up getting soaking wet and it was very bumpy and rough. If I had wanted a high speed boat ride it would have been great, but we had all expected to view wildlife so many people were not too happy. We were lucky with the weather and it was perfect. We really enjoyed the ship and found everything to be clean and tidy with the exception of some dirty carpeting in the hallways near crew areas, but this was hardly a major issue. There were plenty of peaceful places to sit and people watch or locations where good music was available to just sit and listen. We enjoyed the Captain's cocktail party and reception for past guests. Perhaps because of the itinerary, we felt that there probably was an older group of cruisers, or extended family groups enjoying a Christmas without the work. We found this to be our favorite Carnival cruise so far and certainly much, much better than the Liberty cruise over Thanksgiving.
