Background: First time Crystal Cruiser and Mediterranean itinerary. Previous cruise experiences have been with Carnival, Royal Caribbean and NCL in the Caribbean and repositioning NW Pacific coast. Live in the southeast US. Age bracket: mid 50's. Female. Married. Frequently travel single or with one other friend (husband doesn't cruise)
Ship information: I found the Serenity to be a beautiful, well thought out ship. Although she is considered a large ship, the layout was open yet comfortable and easily negotiated. Lot's of nice nook and crannies to seek out.
Many activities to choose from along with a great deal of diversity. I personally enjoyed the art classes, well stocked library (books & dvd's), guest lecturers, afternoon teas and the spa.
Dining: Main dining room was pleasant, well staffed and was there to not only accommodate each individual need, but to surpass your expectations. Found the chef choices in particular to be on the salty side so learned quickly to either ask for no salt or low sodium dishes. They were also happy to individualize orders such as making an appetizer into a main course and the opposite.
Other Dining Options: ROOM SERVICE - There is not a designated room service, your cabin attendant handles this.... if one uses this service frequently (I did each morning) I highly suggest you add to the gratuity... these folks work very very hard and provide quality service 24/7.
Bistro - good place to come during the day for a great snack, coffee (they offer all types of speciality coffees at no additional charge (non alcoholic).
Prego - Wonderful service, food, wine..... best lamb I've ever had!
Silk Road - Again great service, food and wine.
Buffets - didn't participate, but heard from others it was quite good.
Trident Grill: I recommend the Veggie burger, Tuna Melt and the Chicken Caesar Salad.
Entertainment: The Galaxy Lounge venue was where the big shows were performed was laid out nicely and very comfortable. Entertainment was very enjoyable and not overdone like some "Vegas Wanna Be's" I've seen on some ships. The Variety entertainment was good as well, Gary the cruise director also performed as a ventriloquist and was surprisingly very entertaining. (Not usually my cup of tea, enjoy those good surprises). Music and dancing before and after dinner was nice. I noted having four Ambassador Hosts onboard was a plus for many ladies.
Launderettes, complimentary self-service launderettes was very nice (decks 7-11) Included washing machines, detergents, fabric softeners, dryers, irons and ironing boards)
Embarkation and Disembarkation: Well organized.
NUMBER ONE point: Top of the line, quality SERVICE throughout the entire ship, venue and each and every crew member I came in contact with. 6 plus star!
